Principal's Message

Dear Roselea Community,

This term has flown by and been filled with learning, growth, and so many events. The last two weeks have continued this trend, packed with engaging events that make Roselea a wonderful place to be.

Check-In Assessment

I am thrilled to share the fantastic achievements of our students in the recent Check-in Assessments across Years 3-6. Their dedication to learning has truly paid off, with results well above both our Statistically Similar Schools Group (SSSG) and State average.

In Reading, our students in Year 3 achieved results that were 0.5% above SSSG and an impressive 7.1% above the State average. Year 4 surpassed SSSG by 0.7% and the State by 7.1%. Years 5 and 6 excelled even further, with Year 5 achieving 6.6% above SSSG and 12.5% above the State, while Year 6 was 4% above SSSG and 10.7% higher than the State average.

Our Numeracy results are equally remarkable. Year 3 students outperformed SSSG by 10.2% and the State by 16.8%. Year 4 saw gains of 1% above SSSG and 9.2% above the State. Year 5 students achieved 9.1% above SSSG and 17.4% higher than the State average, with Year 6 attaining 7.6% above SSSG and a stunning 17.9% above the State.

New School Plan

We were delighted to welcome 15 parents to our recent Parent Information Session, where conversations focused on Roselea’s future direction. Thank you to everyone who participated so thoughtfully, sharing and contributing to discussion around five key areas: school vision, curriculum, extra-curricular opportunities, transitions and community engagement, and wellbeing. Your ideas and perspectives were invaluable and helped to guide our executive team’s planning and drafting of the new School Plan, which draws on input from staff, parents, and students collected over the past two terms.

School Readiness

Our ‘Is Your Child Ready for Kindergarten?’ information session was hugely successful, providing incoming families with a wonderful opportunity to learn about the amazing programs we offer and ways we can support their children as they begin their schooling journey. In this space, Caroline Idstein and I also attended a School Readiness session at Gumtree Cottage preschool—connecting with our local community and sharing the wonderful work happening at Roselea and other public schools in the area. This partnership was further celebrated with another Preschool Story Time session, fostering a love of learning from the very start.

Stage 3 Camp

Always a highlight on the school calendar is the Stage 3 Camp. This year their camp was at Point Wolstoncroft. Unlike last year, the weather was perfect and the setting provided the ideal backdrop for three days filled with adventure, challenge, and teamwork. Throughout camp, our students pushed themselves out of their comfort zones, embraced physical and team challenges, and returned more than just a little exhausted, a reflection of late nights, laughs and memories that will last a lifetime. Thank you to Mr Love, Mr So, Miss Yip and Mrs Jia who eagerly participated in activities alongside our students, stayed up for late nights and ensured our students had an amazing time. 

P&C Events

On Friday, our P&C and Year 6 students ran their last Play and Popsicle afternoon, another fantastic community event. It was wonderful to see so many students and families join in the fun. I was particularly impressed by our Year 6 students, who created games, stalls, and activities that engaged their peers. I am excited by and proud of the initiative some of our eldest students are taking, not only embracing these opportunities but also leading the way in showing what is possible when we provide a platform for student voice.

Dance-a-thon

Yesterday, we hosted our first ever Dance-a-thon, and what a fun way to launch the last week of what has been a massive term of school events! The students danced the day away in class-themed costumes with an enthusiasm that surely left everyone exhausted. We wrapped up with ice-blocks, a community picnic and BBQ, and the ever-exciting ‘Sliming of the Principal’, my clothes may never be the same again! Thank you to Mrs Idstein for the fantastic job organising the event and a special thank you to our teachers, who found their own dancing shoes and joined in the fun. Thanks also to the P&C and Emily our Canteen Manager for their assistance with the BBQ and Lolly Stall. This was our major fundraiser for the year, and there is still time to get those last sponsors in and secure the top prize, whether individually or as a class. At last count, we have raised $6090 to date. Fundraising remains open until 10.00am Wednesday 23 September.

Teacher Information

I would like to inform you that Mr So will be taking leave from our school at the end of this term and will not be returning for the remainder of the year. 

On Friday, we received confirmation that Mr So had been successfully appointed, through a merit selection process, to a temporary promotional role within the Department of Education as Assistant Principal at Concord Public School. This is a significant achievement, and we extend our congratulations to Mr So on this opportunity.

From the beginning of Term 4, Ms Jennifer Koh will be teaching Class 5/6S. Ms Koh is a familiar face to our students having filled a temporary block on Stage 3 early this term during Mr Love’s leave, as well as being a regular casual at Roselea throughout the year. 

Final words 

As I write my final newsletter as Principal of Roselea, I want to sincerely thank you for making my time here so rewarding, and for your ongoing support and trust. I have truly enjoyed working closely with many families and getting to know what is important to you and your little people. It is the strong partnerships between schools and families that make all the difference for our students, and it is these partnerships that make Roselea such a special place to learn and grow.

I leave Roselea with many fond memories and a deep understanding of how big futures begin in small places. Through the commitment and passion of exceptional teachers, the kindness and dedication of support staff, and the care and partnership of families, Roselea is an amazing place of learning, growth, and belonging. Our students are the heart of our community and the focus of every decision I have made as their principal. I am grateful for their smiles, enthusiasm for learning, and the ways they have shared their passions with me each day. Above all, I am thankful for how they have made coming to work a true joy. It has been an absolute privilege and honour to be part of their learning journey, and I am incredibly proud of all they have achieved.
