To begin the term in Wellbeing, we have been participating in a range of team-building games designed to strengthen our teamwork skills. As a class, we took part in several challenges and discussed the qualities that helped teams succeed. Students identified communication, encouragement, listening, and cooperation as key qualities demonstrated by the most successful teams.
In the game pictured, teams were challenged to help every member cross the “lava river” safely. Students could only stand inside the hula hoops and were not allowed to move while standing in them. Instead, the hoops had to be used as stepping stones to make progress across the river. As the game continued, the rules changed and teams had to adapt their strategies. For example, at one stage only two team members from each team were allowed to be out over the lava at the same time.
The challenge encouraged students to think creatively, work together, and support one another to achieve a common goal. Most importantly, it was a lot of fun and provided a great opportunity to practise valuable teamwork skills.
In our Discovery learning sessions, we have been learning about gardens and what is needed to create a garden that will thrive. We have explored the different parts of a plant and learned about the conditions plants need to grow and stay healthy.
In Week 3, we planted seedlings and will be observing their growth over the coming weeks. We will be responsible for making sure our plants have the right conditions to flourish, including enough water, sunlight, and care. We are excited to watch them grow and see the changes that happen over time!
Throughout this term, our Prep students will visit the Grade 1/2 classrooms every second Friday as they begin to prepare for their transition into Grade 1 next year.
During these visits, the Preps will have the opportunity to explore the Grade 1/2 classrooms, chat with the teachers and students, and ask questions about what it is like to be in Grade 1. These visits are a wonderful opportunity for our Preps to become familiar with the Grade 1/2 learning environment and feel excited and confident about their transition next year.
Last Friday, the Prep classes visited Grade 1/2A and 1/2B, where they enjoyed sharing a story together. We look forward to welcoming our Prep students back for more visits throughout the term and hope these experiences continue to be a positive and exciting part of their transition to Grade 1.
