Week 8 Learning & News

Education in Faith

In the lead-up to the Sacrament of First Holy Communion, our classroom discussions have focused on the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist). We have been learning that 'initiation' simply means entry or welcome; these three unique sacraments act as the building blocks that fully welcome us into the Church community and strengthen our lifelong faith journey.

Our Eucharist candidates will attend Reconciliation as part of their spiritual preparation on Tuesday 16th June between 12:00 - 1:00 pm.

Literacy

In Literacy, we have been thoroughly enjoying reading the novel Matilda. As we read, students have been developing their comprehension skills by making predictions, visualising scenes and characters, and inferring meaning from the text. In our spelling lessons, we have been learning about the long vowel sounds for e and i and practicing recognising these patterns in words. We are also putting the finishing touches on our narrative writing pieces, carefully editing and publishing our work before creating eye-catching front covers to showcase our stories.

Numeracy

In Mathematics, Year 3 students have been learning to add and subtract larger numbers using concrete materials such as MAB blocks. These hands-on materials help students build their understanding of place value and support them in developing strategies for regrouping when adding and subtracting. Through modelling, guided practice and problem-solving activities, students are becoming more confident and accurate in applying these important skills.
