Saint Francis Xavier - Principal's Report

Term 2 - Week 8

Dear Parents and Friends of St Francis Xavier,

Welcome back to another busy fortnight at school. I hope all families enjoyed the recent four-day break over the King's Birthday weekend and had the opportunity to relax, spend time together, and recharge.

It is hard to believe that there are now only 10 school days remaining in Term 2. While the end of term is fast approaching, there is certainly no slowing down, with a wide range of learning opportunities, events, and activities still to come. The final weeks of the term promise to be both productive and exciting, and we look forward to making the most of every one of these remaining school days.

School Disco

Our Neon School Discos last week were a fantastic success, with students enjoying an evening filled with music, dancing, and plenty of neon fun. A huge thank you to our staff and parent volunteers whose support and assistance helped make the events run so smoothly.

We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to STOMP Dance Company for delivering engaging dance sessions throughout the day and then bringing the energy as DJ at the discos.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to such a successful and enjoyable event.

First Communion

We ask our school community to keep a group of our Grade 4 students in your prayers as they prepare to receive the Sacrament of First Holy Communion on Sunday, 21 June. This is a special milestone in their faith journey, and we pray that it will be a joyful and meaningful occasion for them and their families. We extend our sincere thanks to their classroom teachers, Mr Brendan and Ms Debbie, our Religious Education Leader, Ms Marion, and our Parish Priests, Fr Jude and Fr Michael, for their dedication, guidance, and support in preparing our students for this important sacrament.

Wellbeing Day

On Wednesday, 24 June, students will spend the day in their House teams participating in a special Wellbeing Day. Throughout the day, members of our Leadership Teams will lead a range of engaging activities focused on important wellbeing concepts such as resilience, self-regulation, and self-acceptance. These multi-aged learning experiences provide a wonderful opportunity for students across all year levels to work together, build connections, and learn from one another in a supportive and inclusive environment.

School Uniform Update

At our School Advisory Council meeting a couple of weeks ago, members approved the introduction of a new sports t-shirt to be added to our school uniform catalogue. The new shirt is made from 100% cotton, making it a comfortable and practical choice for students during sporting activities and everyday wear. As the new sports t-shirt will not include your child's House colours, all students will be required to purchase the reversible school hat, which features their House colour on one side. This will ensure that students can still be easily identified for House events and activities while enjoying a more comfortable sports uniform.

The School Advisory Council also endorsed the addition of a new softshell jacket with a hood to the uniform range. This will be an optional item for families to purchase, and will provide students with a practical and comfortable outer layer during cooler weather.

We will keep families informed and provide further details once both the new sports t-shirt and softshell jacket are available for purchase through the uniform shop.

Finally, a reminder that if your child wants to wear a beanie to school, it must be the school beanie. This can be purchased for $17 from the uniform shop.

School Drive Through in the morning

The safety of our students is always our highest priority, and we are seeking the support of all families in following our school car park and drive-through procedures. Recently, I have observed some students exiting vehicles on the driver's side while using the morning drive-through zone, on occasions with parents also exiting the vehicle to help them. This practice is not permitted and presents a significant safety risk.  Unfortunately, despite clear expectations, some drivers become impatient and attempt to overtake vehicles in the drive-through area.

  • Students must only exit vehicles from the passenger side, where they can step directly onto the footpath and safely enter the school grounds.

  • Parents must remain in the car and children exit the car independently.

To assist with a smooth and safe drop-off process, students should have their school bag with them inside the vehicle and should not need to access the boot to retrieve belongings. We appreciate everyone's cooperation in ensuring that our drive-through remains a safe environment for all students.

Grade 3/4 School Camp

A reminder to families of our Grade 3/4 students that the final two days of term (Thursday 25 June and Friday 26 June) will be spent at the exciting Grade 3/4 Camp at Camp Manyung in Mount Eliza. We are looking forward to a fantastic experience filled with adventure, teamwork, and fun. To ensure all students can participate safely, please make sure that any required medication is organised and that the appropriate Camp Medical Authority Form has been completed, signed, and returned to the school no later than Monday 22 June. If you require another copy of the form, please contact your child's teacher or the school office, and we will be happy to provide one.
