Interschool Chess Tournament
On Friday, 19 June, the College hosted a Northern Star Chess interschool tournament which involved the participation of 84 students from six competing schools. Twenty-two Monicans represented the College in this event and due to the outstanding performances of our students, St Monica’s College finished in equal second place in the tournament and only two points behind Ivanhoe Grammar School, which finished in first place.
The College congratulates the following students whose strong individual performances enabled them to qualify for the Northern Star Chess regional finals which will be held later this year:
Year 8: Joseph Cahayon, Eli Dechavez, Adam Halabe and Patrick Taylor
Year 10: Anshdeep Aulakh, Sahib Bhulla, Manuel Maqdasi, Mark Touma and Henry Tran
The College also congratulates Ava Sladic of Year 8 and Maryna Maqdasi of Year 11 who were among the best performing girls’ players in the tournament and have qualified to represent the College in the Secondary Girls State Final in Term Four.
