Our Year 1 students had a fantastic day exploring the insects that call the Botanic Gardens home. They were excited to observe a variety of fascinating insects up close and learn more about where and how they live. The experience inspired some wonderful learning, as students sketched and wrote about the incredible insects they discovered.

While we were there we did lots of walking to explore the gardens. The students did a wonderful job making connections between the learning we have been doing at school and seeing it in action in such a beautiful environment. We went on the hunt for living and non-living things and did our best to identify and explain how their basic needs (air, water, food and shelter) were being met in the environment we were in.

Year 2 have been busy learning about The First Scientists, an informative book writted by Corey Tutt. During this process, students have been able to identify varying text features within information texts, including headings, subheadings, photos and captions, diagrams, indexes and glossaries. Students have been excitedly identifying these features in other texts and it is wonderful to see how they are able to apply their knowledge across broader areas.

Maths has been exciting as we have been consolidating our knowledge on 3-digit numbers, and working on time, using the key phrases 'hours' 'minutes' and 'seconds' and making predictions on how long some common tasks can take us. Some of our little legends are even starting to read analog clocks!

In Systemic Knowledge we are learning about how First Nations Peoples use knowledge of the land and sky to understand seasons and guide travel. Students are exploring how careful observation of the stars helped Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples navigate and care for Country. Through discussions and movement activities, students are also practising directional language and thinking about how people connect with places and the environment.

Of course, this fortnight would not be complete without a mention on Harmony Day and the wonderful week we have had celebrating! Last Friday, 2B had done such a great job at fundraising that Miss Jade got slimed!  The week started by welcoming our families on-site while our students spent the day in Cultural Dress. We all shared some beautiful food, celebrating the diversity among us! Thursday was a very exciting day, our colour fun run! We had a blast running through the course.

Friday saw our annual Harmony Day Block Party, and my goodness, what a delight it was to welcome you all to watch the kids perform their dances and song. They put so much time, effort and energy into practicing and were so excited to have you all come along.
