David's Message

Dear Sunshine Heights Parents and Carers,
What a Harmony week it has been! We began with our Community Picnic and Cultural Dress Day, where our students, staff and parents dressed in clothing representative of their cultures, and joined us for food at lunchtime. It was lovely to see so many of our families, and as ever we managed to squeeze it in with only a few specks of rain during the day.
We then had an incredible time of it with our Colour Fun Run. As I write this, our total has hit $26,228! We watched Mr Elliott and Ms Britta get slimed, and our amazing parent helpers created the best experience for our kids as they ran the oval. We all became an amazing fusion of colour during the event.
Finally, we rounded out the week with the Block Party, our Harmony Week celebration where we all promised to keep shining with pride at the diversity in our community. We have some special thanks to share; firstly to Miss Jasmine for her incredible work getting our students up and dancing, singing and performing. We also have to thank Miss Lauren for helping our grade 6 students to create the mural in the library. Both these experiences were supported by our parents, in the form of the amazing Candeece who, along with the senior students from the Sunshine College Band, provided backing music; and with Tam, our Artist extraordinaire who brought the vision for a nature themed mural to life with our grade 6 students. We thank all of you for your dedication to our community!
We know that many of our families were not able to be with us on the evening of our Block Party as Eid celebrations began for our muslim students and families. To them we say a very special Eid Mubarak, and we look forward to hearing about their special celebrations next week. We have only a few weeks until the end of term, so we will be refocusing our learning in the coming weeks to ensure our students maximise their progress in the run up to the Autumn Holidays.
Best wishes,
David and the entire Sunny Heights Team
