This week at Sunshine Heights, we celebrate our diversity and brings together Australians from all different backgrounds. This week is all about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. Below are some Key Word Sign and visuals to help every (regardless of communicative abilities) talk about Harmony Week!

Neurodiversity Celebration Week (16-20 March 2026) is a worldwide initiative that challenges stereotypes and misconceptions about neurological differences. It aims to transform how neurodivergent individuals are perceived and supported by providing schools, universities, organisations, and others around the world with the opportunity to recognise the many skills and talents of neurodivergent individuals.
The word neurodiversity acknowledges that all brains work differently and that there is no “right” way of thinking, learning, behaving, and interacting with the world. The term was initially coined in the 1990s by Judy Singer, an autistic sociologist from Australia. Since then, it has been autistic advocates, as well as other neurodivergent advocates, who have been courageous in spreading awareness and understanding of the neurodiversity movement.

For Neurodiversity Celebration Week, CliniKids Australia launched an animated video called Neurodiverse Brains which explains ideas around neurodiversity in a simple and fun way - great for supporting kids and families to learn about these important ideas! This animation was developed in close consultation with members of the neurodivergent community, and is voiced by a neurodivergent child and her mother.
Thank you!
