Congratulations to the Chess Team
The McCarthy Chess Club has seen great success over the last few weeks.
The representative team of Jackson Medlock, Huynh 'Charlie' Nguyen, Izayah Simmons, Tobias Porter and Chaise Gwatkin won the North West Region Second Division Competition of the NSW Junior Chess League Country Secondary Schools Competition for McCarthy Catholic College. This is the best result that the McCarthy Chess Club has ever reached. It's the first time our school has won this competition. The McCarthy Chess Club prevailed over 16 other schools that were part of this competition. Congratulations to the representative players.
On the 31st of October, the McCarthy Chess Club traveled to St Mary’s Catholic College, Gunnedah, to compete in the second game of the St Mary - McCarthy Competition. This competition forms part of the Chess games between the other Secondary Schools of the Dioceses. On the day, the McCarthy Chess players dominated and this will give the team a lot of confidence as they head into the last chess event of the year, which is the Sarah Sommerlad Shield. Well done to the chess players as they were excellent ambassadors of the school. All the players enjoyed the day and it was a pleasure to see the wide range of chess playing talent on display.
