Principal's Report

Dear Parents/Carers

All Saints’ Day – A Celebration of Faith and Holiness

This week, the Church celebrated All Saints’ Day, a solemnity that honours all the saints—known and unknown—who have lived lives of holiness and faithfulness to God. It is a reminder of our shared call to sainthood, to live lives of love, compassion, and service in our daily actions. As a Catholic community, we take inspiration from these men and women who reflect God’s light in the world and who remind us that holiness can be found in ordinary moments and acts of goodness.

Real Talk Parent and Carer Evening – Wednesday 12 November

We are pleased to invite all parents and carers to a Real Talk presentation on Wednesday 12 November from 7:30pm–8:30pm in the Rosary Centre. This important session will explore relevant and sensitive topics impacting young people today, including consent, sexting and pornography, parenting and technology tips, and teen culture and practices. We encourage all parents and carers to take this opportunity to engage in this valuable discussion and gain insights to support positive conversations at home.

Congratulations to the Class of 2025

Our sincere congratulations go to the Class of 2025, who have now completed their HSC examinations. This milestone marks the end of many years of dedication, effort, and perseverance. We look forward to celebrating this significant achievement together at the Graduation and Awards Evening on Thursday 13 November at the Tamworth Town Hall, which promises to be a wonderful celebration of our students’ accomplishments.

Finishing the Year Strong

As we approach the end of the school year, it is essential that all students remain committed to their learning and maintain strong attendance. Every lesson counts, and finishing the academic year well ensures students are best prepared for the next stage of their learning journey. We thank parents and carers for their ongoing support in encouraging students to attend school every day and give their best effort in all that they do.

A Busy and Vibrant Term at McCarthy

The past four weeks have been filled with rich learning, cultural, and sporting experiences for our students. They have represented the College proudly at the NSWCCC Basketball Championships for both boys and girls, supported the Diocesan Primary Touch Football Competition as referees, and participated in significant cultural events such as the Language Immersion Program and Warraymaylaya Camp. Other highlights include the Year 7 Pilgrimage, assisting at Sunnyside Sports Day and St Edward’s Kindergarten Orientation Day, continued success from our Chess Team, and our new leaders representing McCarthy at the Southern Deanery Mass in Quirindi. These opportunities reflect the spirit of service, excellence, and community that are at the heart of our College.

Naming Our New Learning Space – Honouring Our Dominican Heritage

As we continue to see great progress in our building project, it is timely to share a proposal for the name of our new learning space. It is proposed that the new building be named the Dominican Learning Centre, in honour of the Dominican Sisters whose vision and dedication established the foundation of Catholic education in Tamworth in 1876. In 2026, the Dominican Sisters will celebrate 150 years of Catholic education in Tamworth.

The Dominican Charism, captured in the motto “Veritas” (Truth), has deeply shaped our College’s identity and values. The Dominican tradition is built on the pillars of truth, study, preaching, and contemplation, and continues to inspire our mission as a Catholic learning community.

The proposed name — Dominican Learning Centre — not only pays perpetual recognition to the Sisters’ foundational and enduring contribution, but also reflects the learning focus and community connection that remain central to our work today. The values of Truth, Justice, Prayer, Community, and Learning align strongly with our College’s vision for education that nurtures both the heart and the mind.

This name serves as a fitting tribute to those who began the story of Catholic education in Tamworth and as a reminder for generations to come of the rich Dominican heritage that continues to inspire our pursuit of Veritas.

If you would like to suggest an alternative name that connects with our College Charisms, you are invited to submit a proposal outlining your rationale and its connection to education and faith. Please have your proposal to me no later than 3:00pm, Wednesday 12 November.

Regards
