Junior School

你 好 (ni hao) Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2 families,
As part of Foudation's Guided Inquiry unit, 'How did that get in my lunchbox?' students went on an excursion to Chesterfield Farm last week. They participated in a farm program exploring various aspects of farm life including feeding animals and watching the sheep-dog show to learn about how important dogs are on a farm. They witnessed a milking show, learnt about how cows are milked with a machine and were given the opportunity to try hand milking. It was a great way to connect concepts of food production explored during their Guided Inquiry lessons with practical hands on experiences. Check out the photos below!
In Mathematics this week, Foundation began learning about analogue time. They explored the parts of analogue clocks and learnt how to tell o'clock time. They also worked to consolidate their knowlege of sequencing events, identifying which part of the day they happen (morning, afternoon, night) as well as ordering the days of the week.
In English, Foundation has been looking at fairy tales. Students have explored both Little Red Riding Hood and The Three Little Pigs. They have learnt about the important elements of story, such as character, setting, problem and solution, and have started to analyse and explore these texts in more depth. Some of these exploration topics include discussing what makes a character a 'villian' or 'hero', and identifying characters actions and their consequences.
We said goodbye to Miss Gatt, a pre-service teacher who has been helping us in FE these past two weeks! The students made her some special cards in playbased learning. We wish her all the best in her future endeavours!
Have a great weekend!
Melinda (Miss Emmett) & Ash (Foundation), Beth, Cassie & Suzie (Year 1), Shaye, Emma, & Chelsea (Year 2)
