Green Magpies, Green Gurruks & the Green Nest
We have been very excited to get started on our frog bog this term, however, we had some unfortunate setbacks, so progress has been limited.
Instead, we have been doing some research about the shrubs and bushes we want to plant in our Frog bog. The Green Magpies needed to research what environment the plant thrives in, the size of the plant, how far to plant them from like-plant species and any additional information that ensure the best survival rate.
Last week we met with Paul Kooperman (the Bendigo Sustainability Festival’s Event and Communications Manager) and he said the Green Magpies’ reputation had proceeded them and he was very keen to extend an invite to our famous students!
So we want to give an early heads up and ‘save the date’ for next year - the date is March 30th 2025.
And….share that the Bendigo Sustainability Festival are seeking young people to be part of their new youth-focussed Festival Committee.
They are seeking applicants, aged 11-25 years, for their Festival Director. Below you will find a link to the website and the form to complete if your child is interested.
He passed on that even if they were not chosen as Director, they are seeking students to be part of a planning sessions, workshops at the Discovery Centre and to attend the local ‘College of Crazy Ideas’ to help brainstorm. Paul and the Committee believe the students are inheriting the earth and they are keen to involve them in caring for it and helping to improve the way we all care for it.
We all know how passionate, enthusiastic and amazing our students at Epsom are and we have already witnessed this in various ways (Green Magpie weekly meetings, our school events, the last two Festivals, Climate Summit, school assemblies, etc!!) and know that there are many quality candidates who qualify (11 years and above in 2025), who would like to join in this.
