As we wrap up another exciting term, we look back on what has been a packed and fulfilling few months at Epsom Primary. This term, we placed a strong emphasis on wellbeing and anti-bullying, and our students have truly stepped up, recognising the importance of positive mental health and the power of standing together against bullying.
During R U OK Day, students across all year levels participated in yarning circles, where they explored the steps we can take to support one another. They practiced checking in with their friends by asking the simple yet powerful question, “Are you OK?”—a reminder that caring for each other’s mental health isn’t limited to just one day a year. Students shared personal reflections, talked about the importance of reaching out, and learned that small gestures of kindness can have a big impact on their peers.
Anti-Bullying Day was another highlight of the term. Students arrived at school wearing their favourite colours to symbolise unity in diversity, celebrating the fact that we are all different yet all belong. The day was packed with activities that encouraged deep thinking about what bullying is and isn’t, the various forms it can take (such as physical, verbal, and cyberbullying), and how we can address it as a whole school and as part of the broader community.
The younger year levels focused on inclusivity through the creation of their vibrant 'School of Fish' posters. Each student designed their own fish to represent themselves, and together, they created a visual message that no matter how different we are, we all belong in the same school community. It was a wonderful reminder that our uniqueness strengthens our bonds.
For the older year levels, the focus shifted to the power of words and the responsibility we all have in the digital world. Through activities designed to show how easily rumours can spread, students reflected on how online actions can have real-world consequences. Discussions were held on responsible social media use, empathy, and the importance of thinking before we speak or post. These lessons reinforced that we all play a role in creating a safe, supportive environment, both in person and online.
It’s been inspiring to see our students actively engage in these important topics and carry these lessons with them as they continue to grow. We look forward to building on this momentum in Term 4, with more opportunities for students to champion wellbeing, kindness, and inclusivity throughout our school.
