Welcome back. Term 3 sees the resumption of the ISA Winter season running in to finals in early August.
Over the break we had groups out on international and domestic tours.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude and congratulations to Mrs Westhoff and Mr Saar for their outstanding planning and management of the inaugural Performing Arts Cultural Tour to London, Stratford-upon-Avon, Vienna and Salzburg. The tour was exceptionally well organised and provided a truly memorable experience for all involved.
In addition, the 1st XV Rugby Squad had a highly successful tour to Queensland, winning both games. Congratulations to all students involved, and thanks go to Mr Gates, Mr McGeekie, Mr Maloney, Mr Gillogly and 1st XV Coach Mr Mike Cross who made the tour possible.
Winter sport recommences this weekend with ISA football and tennis playing Round 8 of their competition before moving to ISA semi-finals and finals. ISA rugby has their final two weeks of competition before heading into semis and finals.
Training has started back up for all teams.
Athletics training will commence in Week 3 for the Term 3 Invitational Carnivals which commence in Week 6, followed by the ISA Carnival, scheduled for Week 9.
Please ensure that your sons are correctly equipped for their respective sports. With the cold weather prevalent now, the College tracksuit is recommended as a warm top layer for Saturdays.
Summer sport registrations will open on Clipboard shortly. More information will be provided in the coming weeks.

2026/27 Cricket Season: Registration Starts Next Week!
St Pius X College Cricket is beginning to gather interest for the upcoming 2026/27 season.
Cricket is a fantastic way for students to develop skills, represent the College, build friendships and enjoy the challenge of team sport. Whether students are experienced players, returning cricketers, or new to the game, we encourage families to start the conversation at home about getting involved.
In order to represent the College, players need to be registered for with the MWJCA through PlayHQ, and internally through the College's Clipboard system. Registration links will be available in next week's Woodchatta.

1st XV Queensland Tour
Over the holidays 26 students were selected to represent the school on the 1st XV Queensland Rugby Tour. Upon arrival, after everyone settled into their rooms, the boys were sent to the supermarket to buy provisions for the week and for the annual Master Chef challenge. After the shopping was finished, the team gathered for an evening training session where we faced a tough fitness session. Our hard work was rewarded with Mr Gates putting on a cooking class for the boys so we could make burgers for dinner.
On Day 2 the group drove up to the facilities at the Southport School, where we had a long training session followed by a much-needed recovery session in the ice bath. That afternoon the boys put on their aprons and prepared their meals for the Master Chef challenge. The winners were announced the following night, well done to Sam Millar, Brayzen Sargent, Luke Austin, Ethan Lines and Cam Powell.
The following morning the team travelled down to Byron Bay. On the beach we participated in yoga where we were shown the importance of breathing and flexibility, followed by surfing and touch footy on the beach. We then watched NSW win the State of Origin series in “enemy territory” and relaxed in preparation for our game the next day.
Day 4 was the first game of the tour, with the team having a dominant 45-0 win over St Joseph’s College Gregory Terrace. This was rewarded with a team dinner at an Italian restaurant.
Day 5 was more relaxed with boys going out shopping and site seeing, with some staying back and studying. That night we had a barbeque dinner accompanied with games of tennis. The final morning we woke up early to drive to St Joseph’s Nudgee College, where we participated in their Festival of Rugby.
The team put in an outstanding effort, producing a 26-7 victory over Nudgee. The team stuck around enjoying the day of rugby, getting to watch Nudgee’s 1st XV play against Napier Boys’ High School from New Zealand until we had to leave for the airport. Congratulations to all the students selected to participate in the tour.
We also recognise that tours like this aren’t possible without the support behind the scenes. A heartfelt thank you to all the staff making it possible, Mr Cross, Mr McGeekie, Mr Gillogly, and Mr Maloney, with special thanks to Mr Gates for his long hours and efforts to organise this tour and make it the great success that it was.
Sam Millar (Year 12)
