Faith, Respect, Excellence and Opportunity: A Shared Commitment
As we begin Term 3, I have been reminding our students of the commitment we make when we choose to join the St Pius X College community. Our commitment is to our four College values of Faith, Respect, Excellence and Opportunity. I have emphasised that these are more than words or aspirations; they are the foundation of who we are and how we live together. Importantly, these values are not optional, nor can they be embraced selectively or only when convenient. They work together and call each of us to a common standard.
Faith calls us to live the Gospel values of Jesus Christ, honouring the inherent dignity of every person and responding with kindness, compassion and service.
Respect is shown in the way we treat ourselves, others, our facilities and environment.
Excellence requires us to take responsibility for our actions, attitudes and learning while striving for the highest levels of personal attainment.
Opportunity invites us to engage positively in the many experiences and possibilities offered through College life.
When a family chooses St Pius X College, they choose to partner with us in living these values. Faith, Respect, Excellence and Opportunity are not a menu from which we select those we prefer. They are a package deal! A shared commitment that underpins our belonging to this community and guides how we learn, behave and relate to one another.
The majority of our students live these values each day, and we are proud of the positive contribution they make to our College culture. However, behaviours such as disrupting learning, showing disrespect to others, being unkind, neglecting uniform expectations, failing to care for our facilities and environment, or standing by when poor choices are being made fall short of the standards we expect.
As we commence a new term, our message is clear: our expectations remain high because we believe our young men, your sons, can meet them. Every student has a responsibility to contribute positively to the culture of the College and to uphold all four values, not simply the ones that suit them. Together, let us ensure that Faith, Respect, Excellence and Opportunity continue to shape who we are and how we live as a community.
As we begin Term 3, may these values be reflected in our words, actions and relationships. As St Paul reminds us, 'Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.' (Colossians 3:17).
Wishing all members of the St Pius X community a positive and successful Term 3.
Ms Elizabeth Watson - Deputy Principal
