Red Dirt Immersion

The Immersion was a great success and provided so many wonderful opportunities for the boys to challenge themselves. We were able to engage with local Aboriginal communities and had the privilege of visiting several different schools.

To spend time away on immersion allows an opportunity for reflection and the chance to forge new friendships. We attended Mass at Coonabarabran, visited significant Indigenous sites, and spent time walking and hiking in nature.

The students are to be commended for their behaviour, the respect they showed to all guides, leaders and teachers, and their determination to remain positive when things were difficult. These opportunities have the potential to change lives, and it is privilege to be able to share such experiences with the students.

I would also like to thank the wonderful staff who accompanied the group. Special thanks to Mr Di Sano who organised and led the immersion - his planning and management of the immersion was terrific. Thank you also to Mr Kovacic, Mr Balboa, Mr Cummins, Mr Dalton, and Mr Serone. Experiences such as these are only possible because of the dedication and commitment of our wonderful staff.

NAIDOC Week Assembly

Our first Assembly back this Term was dedicated to NAIDOC Week. It allowed us the opportunity to pause and reflect on the theme, “50 Years of Deadly” - honouring five decades of advocacy, culture, leadership, and resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We presented our Indigenous Touchstones, highlighting how Liberating Education, Inclusive Community, Justice & Solidarity, and Gospel Spirituality call us to embed reconciliation in daily school life; and showcased significant cultural items, including the EREA Message Stick and the Yidaki gifted after last year’s Red Dirt Immersion. 

A highlight was the recap of the Red Dirt Immersion, where students visited Coonabarabran Public School for their NAIDOC celebrations and learned about the legacy of Mary Jane Cain, an Aboriginal woman who secured land at Burra Bee Dee in 1893 and whose descendants continue to live there today.

We were reminded that reconciliation is not a moment but a journey - one the St Pius X community continues to walk with respect, courage, and hope.

Movie Night

Students in Years 9 -12 are invited to attend our Movie Night which is being held this Friday night. All information is below:

Year 10 Formation Day

Year 10 students will participate in their annual Formation Day on Friday 31 July. Students are to wear their school sport uniform and bring their own recess, lunch and water bottle in their sport bag.  

Matt Caruana (https://www.mattcaruana.com/)  will be presenting to the students on this day and we will then continue with the theme of ‘hope’ for the remainder of our time together.

Youth Landcare afternoon

Students keen on caring for the wildlife and plant community, come and join in the Youth Landcare Afternoon at St Anthony's Kierans Creek Youth Landcare Day, 46 Myoora Rd, Terrey Hills, Sunday 2 August from 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm. Families Welcome. 

Wear sturdy shoes, long pants, long sleeves, sunhat, sunscreen and bring your own water bottle. Tools and refreshments provided. Please RSVP to Anne Lanyon via annelanyon@gmail.com.

Sacrament of Confirmation

Holy Spirit North Ryde

Bishop Terry Brady will confer the Sacrament of Confirmation at Holy Spirit North Ryde on Saturday 5 September 2026.

Parish children from local public or other schools will be prepared in the parish to receive this sacrament.

If your child is in Year 6 or above, has been baptised, received their First Reconciliation and First Communion, then they can complete their Catholic Initiation and be confirmed.
