BOOK WEEK

🎶🎺📚 Get Ready for Book Week 2026! 📚🎷🎵
Â
It’s almost time for one of our absolute favourite weeks of the school year, CBCA Book Week!
Book Week is in Week 8 at SJV this year.Â
Â
Organised annually by the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA), Book Week celebrates Australian children's literature, authors, and illustrators. Across Victoria and the rest of the country, schools and libraries join together to foster a love of reading and highlight the power of storytelling. It’s a wonderful opportunity for our students to step out of the everyday, dive into new worlds, and celebrate their favourite books!
Â
This year's official CBCA theme is "Symphony of Stories", a celebration of how many different voices, characters, and ideas come together like instruments in an orchestra to create harmony through reading.
Â
We have an incredible lineup of author visits, Lamont Book Fair, and our beloved costume parade planned across Weeks 8 and 9 to bring this "symphony" to life.
Key Dates & Highlights
*The Lamont Book Fair (Week 8)
When: Running across Week 8, opening Monday 31st afternoon in the Library until Friday Afternoon 4th September.
Â
Lamont Books brings a mini bookshop right into our school library, packed with a huge range of high-quality picture books, novels, and fun activity titles for all reading levels. It’s a fantastic opportunity for students to pick out new books to take home, and every purchase helps earn valuable reading resources for our school!
Keep an eye out as more detailed information regarding opening hours and payment options will be sent home closer to the date.
*The Book Week Dress-Up Parade
- When: Wednesday, 2nd September (Week 8)
- Time: 2:30 PM
Where: Assembly Area (weather permitting)
Â
The moment the kids wait for all year! Students (and teachers) are invited to come dressed as their favourite book character.
Parents & Younger Siblings: You are all most welcome to attend and cheer on the parade, and you are very welcome to dress up too! The more characters we have joining our "symphony," the better! Costumes don't need to be elaborate; cardboard boxes, old clothes, and a bit of imagination often make the very best outfits!
*Week 8: Marc McBride Workshops (Years 3 - 6)
When: Monday, 31st August
We are thrilled to welcome Marc McBride, the world-famous illustrator of the best-selling Deltora Quest series! Marc will be running hands-on workshops with our middle and senior students, sharing his creative process, demonstrating how he brings fantasy worlds to life, and helping students unleash their inner artists.
*Week 9: Sarah Speedie Workshops (Foundation - Year 2)
When: Friday, 9th September
The magic continues into Week 9! Popular children's author Sarah Speedie (author of Mozzies Vs Flies, Meowster Chef, and Wild About Book Week) will conduct a 50 minute workshop with classes about her creative process when creating picture books.Â
How You Can Get Involved at Home
- Start Brainstorming Costumes: Talk with your child (and any younger siblings!) about their favorite book characters this week to avoid the night-before rush!
- Save the Date: Mark Wednesday afternoon (2:20 PM) in your calendar so you can join us for the parade.
We can't wait to see the incredible creativity on display for our parade and hear all about what the students learn from our visiting creators!
Â
Happy reading,
