Tales with Tales
Glen Eira Libraries are pleased to share details about Tales with Tails, a therapy dog reading program being held at Bentleigh Library and Youth Hub during Term 1, 2026.
It is a FREE program within our community, particularly to students and their families who might benefit the most from attending.
Tales with Tails is designed for children aged 5–12 who may experience challenges with reading or reading aloud. Sessions are supported by trained therapy dogs, Harvey and Denver, alongside their handler and program facilitator, and our Children’s and Youth Services Librarians.
Therapy dogs support readers by providing a calm and non-judgmental presence, alleviating fears and stress associated with reading and encouraging them to participate in the friendly and relaxed environment of the library. This setting helps participants to enhance and develop their reading skills and confidence. Additionally, it can improve focus and concentration, which can positively impact academic performance and learning outcomes.
The Term 1 program will run for six weeks, commencing Tuesday 24 February and concluding Tuesday 31 March. Sessions will be held weekly from 4pm–5:30pm at Bentleigh Library and Youth Hub, 161 Jasper Road, Bentleigh. Participants are encouraged to attend the full program series to gain the greatest benefit.
As places are limited, they may not be able to offer a place to all interested participants.
Families can register their interest by submitting an Expression of Interest via the following link: https://library.gleneira.vic.gov.au/whats-on/tales-with-tails
