Dear families,

As the weeks roll by, our smooth and calm start to the year has continued. Our consistent use of routines and Engagement Norms has helped set clear expectations for learning. Our Inclusion Outreach Coach visited us today and, as she left, commented on the difference she has noticed over her time here - particularly the calmness she feels when walking through the school. We look forward to continuing in this positive direction through our involvement in the School Wide Positive Behaviours framework, alongside the continued growth of our Wellbeing and Inclusion team. Please read more about our progress on our SWPBS page later in the newsletter.

Our first ever Smoking Ceremony was held during the first week of term and was a truly special occasion. We thank Gunga from the Bunurong Land Council for sharing the meaning of the Smoking Ceremony and for expressing his love of land and culture through playing the didgeridoo. We look forward to continuing to build our connection and knowledge with the Land Council.
School Council
Our final meeting of the current School Council will be held next week, after which the process of calling for nominations for our next council will begin. We have six open positions available. This is an amazing opportunity to work together to continue shaping the direction of OPS. Please note that all School Council members are now required to hold a valid Working with Children Check. Further information regarding the nomination process will be shared in the coming weeks.
Year One Phonics Check Results
We are incredibly pleased with the Yr 1 Phonics Check results which show that we are exceeding similar schools, our network and the state. We are particularly proud considering the students had not even had a full 12 months of Systematic Synthetic Phonics instruction through PhOrMeS. I would also like to note the hard work and dedication of our teachers in the implementation of our phonics approach. We very much look forward to seeing this year’s results.

Please keep reading for more important news and announcements.

After twenty wonderful years of teaching in various rolls (full-time, part-time, and most recently casual relief) at Ormond Primary School, I am retiring.
I leave with gratitude and fabulous memories of special colleagues, families, and most importantly, exceptional children who have welcomed me into their lives.
Wishing everyone, especially our students, a successful, safe and happy 2026!

Ormond Primary School is so lucky to have such great talent. Our latest superstar is Yva K (56E).
Yva competed at the Judo Victoria State Championships on Sunday, 07 December, and WON a gold medal in her division. She was very proud to represent her club and it was fantastic for her to be rewarded for her hard work and dedication.

This week, we received a message from a community member regarding unsafe bike riding in the local area.
We ask that parents please speak with their children about the importance of bike safety. Riding responsibly helps protect not only the rider, but also other members of our community.
Our external music provider, Kids on Key, has now commenced lessons at OPS, and students are thoroughly enjoying their sessions. We are incredibly impressed with the professionalism and knowledge of the teachers.
We kindly ask parents to remind their child/ren of their lesson time on the morning of their scheduled session, so they can make their way promptly to the conference room.
A reminder to all families that we are having a Curriculum Day on Friday 6th March, so there is no school for students. As a staff we will be reviewing our current universal Tier 1 practices for engagement in classrooms and begin a teaching sprint on classroom instruction.
