Year 1/2 – Exploring Mixtures
Year 1/2 students have been busy exploring mixtures in STEAM. They experimented with mixing different materials together and carefully observed what happened. Students investigated properties such as whether materials were visible after mixing and whether they dissolved in water. Through hands-on experiments, they developed their observation skills and learned that not all mixtures behave in the same way.
Year 3/4 – Exploring Materials and Packaging
Year 3/4 students have been exploring the different materials used in everyday packaging and containers. They conducted simple tests to investigate material properties such as strength, flexibility and suitability for purpose. Through hands-on investigations, students developed their scientific thinking and gained a better understanding of why certain materials are chosen for specific uses.
Year 5/6 – Changes in Matter
Year 5/6 students have been learning to identify and compare reversible and irreversible changes in matter. As part of this learning, they conducted an experiment using vinegar and bicarbonate of soda to determine whether the change was reversible. Students poured bicarbonate of soda into a plastic glove placed over a jar of vinegar and observed the reaction as the glove inflated. This engaging experiment helped students understand how some changes cannot be undone once they occur.
