Middle Learning Community

Year 3

We cannot believe we are already approaching the end of Term 3. It has been such a busy and productive term of learning!

In English, we are continuing with our class novel The Iron Man. Your child will continue to bring home chapters of this book for extra reading. To extend their thinking, you might like to encourage them to predict and write what they think could happen in the next chapter.

In Maths, we have been learning about 3D shapes over the last two weeks. We concluded this unit by creating 3D models using matchsticks and playdough, then testing how much load they could hold. This hands-on lesson certainly proved that our students are both resilient and determined learners!

In History, we have been researching and presenting our findings about a variety of official flags and significant Australian holidays.

We have also had the pleasure of welcoming Miss McLeod into our MLC team for her second-year teaching placement. She has done a wonderful job leading our literacy lessons and small maths groups, and she will be sorely missed by everyone in Year 3.

Year 4

In English, we have continued with our class novel Storm Boy, and students have almost completed their information report on the Coorong. Students have also been practising their handwriting in preparation for pen licences at Week 9 Assembly.

In Maths, we have completed our Fractions Unit, and we have started looking at Location, using a map grid system. Students enjoyed playing battle ships to consolidate their knowledge of grid references.

In History, we have been researching about significant Australian celebrations and holidays. In Art, students have begun creating a 3D pop up room.

On Monday, the students participated in Charism Day where they learnt about our schools Charism. We are now looking forward to Athletics Day next week on Monday and Footy Colours Day on Friday.

A massive congratulations to those that auditioned for St Joseph's Got Talent and we look forward to seeing our MLC talent at the St Jospeh’s Got Talent Final on Wednesday 17th September.
