Visual Arts
In the classroom this week...
All students will be finishing off work from throughout the term as well as contributing to a collaborate art installation of large flowers inspired by Yayoi Kusama. They will be working together to cut and shape paper into petals, stamens and stems, before finally decorating them with colourful dots!
Auslan
Years 1 and 2
This week in Auslan, students will be revising the Auslan alphabet through engaging fingerspelling games and practising recognising and signing letters and simple words. They will also explore signs related to Easter, learning vocabulary such as egg, bunny and chocolate, and using these signs in games and creative activities.
Years 3 to 6
This week, students will engage with a signed story, developing their skills in watching and understanding Auslan texts. They will identifying key events, characters and expressions used in the story, and discuss how meaning is conveyed through signs and facial expression. Students will also continue to build their confidence in fingerspelling through a variety of interactive games.
Performing Arts
In the Classroom…
Due to planning week and an adjusted timetable, only some classes will have Performing Arts this week. During their sessions, students will be consolidating learning and completing work and assessments from the past few weeks.
All classes will also continue rehearsing our whole school song, which we are looking forward to performing together at assembly next Monday.
Victorian State School Spectacular (VSSS)
A reminder to families of participating students that the VSSS Rehearsal Hub activity is now available on Sentral for permission and payment. Please also ensure you have checked the Sentral notification/email regarding your child’s t-shirt size so we can order the correct size for your child.
Our Mass Dance group will attend their first excursion rehearsal this week on Thursday 26th March, with the bus departing at 9:00am.
Warrandyte Festival – Senior Choir
Our Senior Choir will be performing at the Warrandyte Festival this Saturday at 12:15pm on the main stage.
Students involved will take part in several rehearsals this week to help them feel confident and performance-ready. Families of participating students have received further information via email.
STEM
Due to planning week and an adjusted timetable, only Grade 1 and 2 classes will have STEM. Students are exploring how composting helps reduce food waste and returns valuable nutrients to the soil, providing a more sustainable alternative to landfill. Building on last week’s learning about landfill and its negative impacts on the environment, students are developing an understanding of how their everyday choices can help care for the planet.
Physical Education
Due to Planning Week and an adjusted timetable, only selected classes will participate in Physical Education sessions this week. During these lessons, students will be consolidating previously learned skills while also being introduced to new concepts through modified baseball and softball activities. These games are designed to be inclusive, engaging, and accessible for all students.
