Student Wellbeing

Harmony Week
This term, Yarrabing Secondary College celebrated Harmony Week, embracing cultural diversity and inclusiveness within our school community. To begin conversations about students’ and teachers’ cultural connections, the wellbeing team collaborated with the school community to create a cultural diversity map. Students were invited to draw a map of a country that reflects their cultural identity, or one they feel a particular connection to, and then place it next to a world map, connecting their drawing to the country with a piece of string. This visual display beautifully showcased the global richness of our school community.
Throughout the week, staff and students shared aspects of their cultural identity through music, food, and traditions, sparking meaningful conversations and encouraging greater understanding across the school. The activities reinforced the school’s values of respect, inclusivity, and celebrating difference. The world map display became a central focus, prompting curiosity and discussion in classrooms and around the school.
As Term Two approaches, the wellbeing team and the broader school community look forward to continuing to celebrate diversity, inclusiveness, and other special days that bring students and staff together.
