Music

Year 9 Music Technology
Year 9 Music Technology students are beginning to develop their composition skills using Reaper. They are exploring how VST and MIDI instruments function in songwriting. Students are also using Virtual DJ to create setlists, applying techniques such as song transitions, beat matching, and track selection from the DJ music catalogue to produce their final MP3 projects.
Year 9 Music Performance
Year 9 Music Performance students have been engaging in an exciting and immersive unit focused on global music exploration. Using the interactive platform MusicMap.info, they are investigating a wide range of music genres from around the world, uncovering their cultural origins and the connections between them. Students have also begun exploring Songwriting.
Year 8 Film Music
Year 8 Music students have completed their Film Music Key Learning Task (KLT), focusing on how music enhances and shapes the emotional impact of visual storytelling. They explored key compositional techniques and planned their own film scores using storyboard templates. Students composed music for a scene or sequence, applying devices such as leitmotif, underscoring, and Mickey Mousing. The unit concluded with thoughtful student reflections on their experiences, strengths, and goals for future composition work.
Year 7 Computer Music
Year 7 Music students are developing skills in dragging and organising loops, inserting and naming tracks, and utilising markers while colouring loops. They are also exploring space and density as part of the compositional process. These tasks are being carried out within the electronic music genres of Future House and Trap, allowing students to experiment with and apply their learning in a contemporary context.
Year 7 Critical Listening
In Year 7 Music, critical listening is the process of analysing, evaluating, and judging sound or spoken information, rather than simply hearing it. Students have been practising how to eliminate distractions and focus their attention on the music, enabling them to engage more effectively in critical listening.
Ensemble Tracker
Throughout the term, all music students have been diligently developing their instrumental skills, focusing on coordination, fine motor development, teamwork, self-expression, and building self-esteem. Students have consistently demonstrated strong application of practical routines.

Music Club
Music Club continues to thrive as a much-loved space for creativity and connection. With the support of our enthusiastic music staff, the program provides students with opportunities to collaborate, create, and build confidence in a supportive environment.
Band on Tuesday: Lunchtime Music Club (Band) is an opportunity for students to join a band with peers from across different year levels and learn new songs together. We are looking for vocalists, keyboard players, guitarists, bassists, and drummers. Everyone is welcome, whether you are keen to play an instrument, build your skills, or simply enjoy making music and socialising with others outside of class time.
Free Play on Monday and Thursday: Music Club (Free Play) is a welcoming space where students can practise, collaborate, and socialise through music. It offers an opportunity to connect with music, build a sense of belonging, and enjoy time with like-minded peers. All students are welcome to drop in, play instruments, and engage with the music community.
