Junior Sport Recap 2025
It’s hard to believe we’re already at the end of 2025! One of the things that makes us most proud is the way our students represent St Mary’s College.
Whether it’s at school events or interschool carnivals, they consistently show respect, responsibility, resilience and relationships – the four Rs we value so highly. Their sportsmanship and enthusiasm are truly inspiring, and most importantly, they always have fun with plenty of smiles.
Highlights:
- Participation: Our students have continued to show great enthusiasm across all carnivals and rosters. It’s been fantastic to see so many students giving things a go and showing such positive sporting spirit.
- Triathlon: Our triathlon team proudly represented the College in a field of over 3,000 junior competitors. Seeing the sense of accomplishment on each athlete’s face is always a highlight.
- Flippa ball and water polo: Flippa ball again made a big splash this year, with multiple teams in Terms 1 and 4 and a wave of new players jumping on board! It’s the perfect springboard for building the skills and confidence needed to take on water polo, which kicks off in Term 2 for our Year 5 and 6 students. This year, we once again entered a team in the Year 5/6 roster, and proudly, they held their own in a fiercely competitive division!

Touch: It’s always great to see our Year 6 students finish their junior sport journey in one of our last sporting rosters for the year.
Our Year 5/6 (Charlotte, as our only Year 5 student, slotted in perfectly) touch football team, under the guidance of Justin, had a great roster and finished the sporting year beautifully.

JackJumpers
Hot off our fantastic JackJumpers' Gametime experience – and the exciting announcement of our very own WNBL team, the Tasmania Jewels – Zara Brown and Grace Veitch were selected to attend a special JackJumpers clinic.
Our budding basketballers enjoyed first-class tips and guidance from players Tyger Campbell and Nick Marshall and even scored a meet-and-greet and photo opportunity. What an awesome experience!

Thank you to families
We want to take a moment to say a huge thank you to all the parents and carers who have supported our sports program this year.
Whether you’ve helped with coaching, umpiring, transporting students or cheering from the sidelines, your involvement makes all the difference. We simply couldn’t do it without you!
Farewell to Our Year 6s
As our Year 6 students get ready to move into the Senior School, we wish them all the very best for this exciting new chapter. It’s always a bit sad to say goodbye, but we’re so proud of how far they’ve come and can’t wait to see what they achieve next.
As we head into the holidays, I’d like to wish everyone a safe, happy and restful festive season. Thank you for your support throughout 2025. We can’t wait to see everyone back in 2026 for another great year of sport in the Junior School at St Mary’s College!
Senior School | 9/10 Touch Footy
This term has been an absolute blast for our Year 9/10 touch footy team. Milana Hiras (Year 9) shares her reflections on the season:
“We’ve had so much fun playing together this term. Our team has come such a long way since Year 7, and our skills have improved immensely. It’s been fantastic to see the teamwork we’ve built really paying off, both on and off the field.”
Congratulations to the team on a fun and rewarding season!
