News from the Rowing Sheds

Mr Andrew Pinelli, Rowing Coordinator

New Norfolk mini quad regatta

Recently, our junior rowers travelled to New Norfolk for the Junior Quad Sprint Regatta. This event was a great opportunity for them to gain more experience in their quads. To broaden their skills, the coaches mixed up the crews slightly. The first session featured heats where crews could qualify for the finals. SMC had two crews in each age group final, with both the U15 and U14 crews winning their respective finals. These strong performances helped SMC secure the overall victory and claim the Junior Girls' Shield.

Club Regatta 4

Over the weekend, our senior rowers, along with some invited U15 rowers, attended Club Regatta 4. Blessed with beautiful weather on Saturday, our students performed very well in both their single and double races. A very proud achievement! On Sunday, though, it was a different story. The girls managed to compete in the U19 fours race before the weather turned horrendous, forcing the remainder of the regatta to be cancelled. Unfortunately, this meant no ‘8’ race over the weekend.

Moratorium

The moratorium commences this week, which means a nice rest for rowers and their families. Please stay tuned to communication from coaches and managers regarding when different training sessions will resume after the moratorium.

A big thank you to everyone for a great start to the season. I encourage all of our rowers to stay active during the Christmas break and be ready for a very busy time once school resumes.
