The Finchiburras (Kookaburras 00A and Finches 00B) have already been settling into school routines and are showing growing independence each day. Week 3 was an exciting milestone, as it was the first week all Finchiburras experienced a full school day. They enjoyed the full range of learning, including Literacy, Numeracy, and specialist subjects.
Here’s an overview of what we’ve been learning:
We began our literacy learning by introducing our first letter of the year – the letter s. Students explored:
What phonics is
The letter name and sound
Words that begin with s, such as snake
We also had fun with our first tongue twister. Let’s try it again:“Silly Sally has six socks!” 😄
In writing, students learned about the importance of a good pencil grip and how to hold a pencil correctly. We practised forming both uppercase and lowercase s using the correct starting points and strokes.

In Numeracy, we started with our very first number – number 1. Students explored that 1 can be shown in many ways:
The numeral 1
The word one
1 counter, 1 star, 1 person
The Finchiburras came up with some wonderful and creative ways to show the number 1.
We finished the week by introducing number 2, exploring how adding one more makes two.

It has been a busy and exciting first three weeks, and we are so proud of how the Finchiburras are growing in confidence and independence. We look forward to seeing how they continue to grow and learn throughout the term.
Thank you for your ongoing support at home. 💛
