All students at our school have made an excellent start to the year in Physical Education (PE). During the first two weeks of PE lessons this term, we have focused on the importance of making safe choices and using sports equipment properly, both in class and during recess and lunchtime. The school behavior matrix was discussed, emphasizing the importance of bringing a hat and water bottle to each PE lesson. All students participated in simple tag and teamwork games to reinforce their fair play and teamwork skills.
Foundation students have begun to participate in a one-hour Perpetual Motor Program (PMP) session once a week. Students will participate in five small group rotational activities aimed at improving their balance, coordination, fitness, tracking, and locomotion skills.
On Friday, 20th March, all Year 5 and 6 students will participate in the Summer Gala Day. Students will take part in basketball, cricket, and rounders. There will be mixed and girls' teams for each sport. A big shoutout to the parent volunteers who will be coaching a team each for the day. Without your time and effort, we would not have been able to form six teams. Instead of just sitting and watching, our students will have the opportunity to participate actively. Thank you very much once again! A notice about upcoming events will be posted on Compass soon.
Every Year 3 to 6 student will take part in our schools athletics carnival at Davies Reserve, Oakleigh South on Wednesday, 1st April. A compass events notice will be posted on compass closer to the date.
Any parent interested in volunteering at school sports events this year, please inform the office or myself. Your involvement is a vital part of our school community; the more parents participate, the better our events will be. Thank you!
One final note, ALL STUDENTS MUST HAVE A HAT AND WATER BOTTLE WHEN THEY PARTICIPATE IN ANY SPORTING ACTIVITY AT SCHOOL. If we are not in The Huddle and are outside, they unfortunately cannot participate. During Term 1, most PE lessons will be held outside, weather permitting.
Dear Families,
At Clayton North Primary School, our school vision is to Help Every Child Learn and Feel Safe.
We use School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) to help all students learn, feel safe, and succeed. SWPBS is a whole-school approach. It means:
We teach behaviour the same way we teach reading or maths
We use clear, simple language
We have the same expectations in every classroom and space
Our School Values
We talk about behaviour using three values:
To be the best learner I can be, I show:
Respect – I care about myself and others
Responsibility – I care about my environment
Resilience – I care about my wellbeing
These values help students:
Understand what is expected
Feel safe and confident
Keep learning, even when learning is hard
What This Looks Like at School
Teachers:
Explicitly teach the values
Practise them with students
Acknowledge positive behaviour
Support students when they need help
Students:
Learn what the values look like
Use the same language across the school
Understand how behaviour supports learning
How Families Can Help
You can support your child by:
Talking about the values at home
Using the same words: Respect, Responsibility, Resilience
Asking: “How did you show one of our school values today?”
Together, we are building a positive, supportive learning community.
Art Smocks
Thank you to the families who have already provided an art smock for their child to use during Art class. While we have spare smocks and aprons available, many students prefer to use their own. If you would like to purchase an art smock for your child to use at school, they are available from stores such as Kmart, Target and Officeworks. If your child brings their own named art smock to school, it will be stored in the Art room in their class tub for their own personal use. Here are some examples of art smocks that are fantastic for Art class as they protect their uniform from mess and are easy for the children to put on.

Foundation Art
Foundation students have made a wonderful start to their Art classes, practising classroom rules and routines with confidence. They’ve explored watercolour painting, experimented with different types of lines, and used mixed media to create these beautiful artworks. Great job everyone!

M‑City Community Christmas Art Competition
Thank you to all our families who voted for our tree sculpture in the M-City Community Christmas Art Competition in December. Although we weren’t the winning school, we proudly received a $100 participation prize to support resources for our Art program. Congratulations to our students for their wonderful ideas and creativity in decorating our tree.
