This term in STEM, our Year 2 students have been busy becoming plant scientists! We have been growing radish seeds and investigating how they grow with and without light.
First, we planted our radish seeds and placed some in the light and some in the dark for one week. We made predictions about what might happen and carefully observed the changes each day.
After one week, we discovered something very interesting! The radishes kept growing even in the dark. However, the leaves did not look healthy — they were pale yellow and weak. The radishes that had light were much stronger and greener.
Next, we moved all of the plants into the light. We were excited to see that the yellow leaves slowly began to turn green. This helped us understand how important light is for plants to stay healthy.
Finally, we planted our radishes in the school garden so they can continue to grow. Now we are watering them and watching them carefully.
We hope to harvest some big, healthy radishes very soon!
Well done to our fantastic Year 2 scientists for their careful observations and great teamwork!
