Lightning Premiership

Term 2 Lightning Premiership 2024

Our Senior School students partake in a 5/6  Weekly Sport Program, that gives them the opportunity to compete against other schools within the area.

During our Winter Sport Program, the sports our students can choose from are AFL, Netball, Soccer and T-Ball.

Below are a collection of comments from our students, reflecting on their day at the Lightning Premiership Day.

On the 14th of June at 9:30am, all of the year 5/6 students hopped on buses, to head off to the various sporting fields. All of the buses were buzzing with excitement for the fun filled day ahead.

All the students who were doing AFL and T-ball went to Caulfield Park, the Netballers went to Boroondara Netball Courts and the Soccer players went to Lords Reserve. – Teddy S

AFL:

When we got to Caulfield Park, we put on our footy boots and did some warming up to prepare for the first game against CJC. We ended up winning by a whopping 105 points, which was a great start to the day. The win gave us lots of energy for the games to come. Our next match was against Lloyd Street. We’d heard they were a pretty good team, so the nerves started to kick in. It was a great game, which we ended up winning by 33 points. – Iggy C.

We knew the next game would be our hardest… It was against Malvern Central. It was a really tough game; we tried our hardest but they were just too good for us. The score was 30- 10. We went into our next game wanting to win, the team we were going up against was Caulfield South PS.

They had two people on their team who went to the state trials, so we knew we had to fight hard. We banded as a team and played too well for them. Beating them by 62 points.

After eating lunch, we were ready to win our last game against Carnegie PS. We beat them by 26 points, feeling proud that we won all except one when we came back to school. It was an amazing day we will all remember. – Paddy C.

Netball:

It was a long 30 minutes on the bus on the way to the Boorondara Netball Association. As soon as we got there, all the teams were already training and warming up for their games.

The coordinator told us all the rules and made us very excited for the games to soon come. Both Red teams had 6 games, while both Blue teams had 7 games.

Everyone tried their hardest and was very supportive on the sidelines. Everyone played really well and enjoyed the day, while others even got into the next level.

Our day ended by another long 30 minutes on the bus, we finished the day with huge smiles on our faces. It was definitely a day to remember and the teams are very excited for the students who made it to the next level.

It was an amazing experience for everyone. – Capri S & Grace G.

T- Ball:

The Division One team won 2 and lost 2 of our games. The Division Two team lost 2 and won 2 as well. Both teams showed great effort and sportsmanship throughout the day.

Players showed great enthusiasm, teamwork, and skill throughout the season.

Overall, the Division One team came Third on the ladder. We showed respect to all the teachers and parents that came on the day and had lots of fun working as a team. - Hugo C & Louie W.

Soccer:

The two soccer teams went to play against other schools at Lords Reserve.

The blue team had an amazing squad, but we didn’t show our worth.

Our first game was against Malvern Central, we conceded a late goal and it ended 1-1. A few games later we faced CJC.

It was not our best game and the french team had out done us.

The red team, doing not as bad, had won 2 games, tied 3, and lost 2.

All our tied games were nil- nil, and the games we won were 4 nil and 1 nil.

Everyone who played did really well.

The blue team put up a fight against Lloyd Street but lost 3-0.

We conceded a header, a left foot shot and a right foot shot. It was our last game and we were versing Malvern Valley.

We were the better team but we just couldn’t convert, it ended 0-0.

The toughest team the red team was up against was also Lloyd Street, after a well fought battle we still lost 2-nil. The blue team drew 4 and lost 3.

We all had an amazing day! - Toby B & Jayden L.
