Year Three/Four News

This morning we farewelled the Year 4s off to camp.  The Year 3s lined up out the front school fence to wave them off, along with a number of parents.  There was lots of excitement from both sides of the fence.

The Year 3s will have lots of opportunities to mix with other students from the other Brad Building classrooms.  Today they had their first meeting about their own camp, which is happening in Term Four, at Cave Hill Creek.  At this meeting they had the chance to check out the layout of the camp, ask questions and complete a list of friends they would like to share a room with.  There will be further information coming out to families after the holidays in Term Three.

In Maths, students have moved on from reading fractions to applying some of this knowledge to reading analogue clocks, such as half-past, quarter-to, etc.  They have also been learning about reading increments of five minutes.  Any additional reinforcement and practise you can do at home would be greatly appreciated.

In Reading, we are continuing our study of language features in texts, identifying examples in texts that are being independently read and continuing to work on completing reading responses.

Our work around narratives has concluded and we will soon be moving onto our next type of writing – Historical Recounts.  Students enjoyed publishing and sharing their completed narratives with their peers last Friday and many have decided to include them in their Learning portfolios, ready for the open classroom next week (after the Special Person Assembly).

Just some reminders:

~ please ensure your child has access to a charger for their iPad and that it comes to school each day fully charged

~ students should be encouraged to leave their headphones at school

~ some students still require an art smock

~ weekly homework consists of at least three nights of reading, that is then signed off by a parent or guardian

~ school beanies are available for sale at the office for $15
