Senior Hoop Time Basketball
On Tuesday 28th July, students in Years 5 and 6 had the opportunity to participate in Senior Hoop Time Basketball at the State Basketball Centre.
We had eight teams representing our school across the All Star, Future Stars and Rookie divisions. Students competed in a series of mini games, each consisting of 2 x 8-minute halves, against six other schools throughout the day.
It was a fantastic day filled with fun, excitement and outstanding sportspersonship. Students demonstrated excellent teamwork, determination and respect, making it a pleasure to watch our teams compete.
Congratulations to the three teams that progressed to their Grand Finals - All Star Boys Green, All Star Girls and Future Stars Girls. Our All Star Boys Green team finished second in their pool and played Bayswater North PS in the Grand Final. Although they were defeated, they fought hard until the final siren and should be incredibly proud of their efforts.
The Future Stars Girls team finished first in their pool and took on Knox Park PS in the Grand Final. Despite the result not going their way, they played with great determination and teamwork throughout the day.
The highlight of the tournament was the All Star Girls Grand Final. After trailing for much of the match, the girls scored in the closing seconds to level the scores on the buzzer and send the game into extra time. They continued their outstanding form, going on to win the Grand Final by 10 points. Congratulations to the team on an amazing achievement! They have now qualified for the Regional Finals later this year.
A huge thank you to all of our parent volunteers who generously gave their time to coach and manage our teams. Your support played a vital role in making the day such a success, and we are incredibly grateful for your commitment to our students.
Thank you also to the parents and grandparents who came along to cheer on our teams.
Congratulations to every student who represented our school. We are incredibly proud of the way you competed, supported one another and represented our school with pride.
House Athletics Carnival
Congratulations to all of our amazing Year 3–6 students for making the 2026 House Athletics Carnival such a memorable event! Held at Tom Kelly Athletics Track in Doncaster East on Wednesday 29th July, the carnival was a wonderful celebration of athleticism, perseverance and house spirit.
Unfortunately, Melbourne's weather didn't cooperate this year, with steady rain falling for much of the morning. Despite the challenging conditions, it was heart-warming to see so many students giving their best, encouraging their peers and proudly representing their houses. Their resilience and positive attitude were truly remarkable.
The day began with our Tabloid Program, where students rotated through a variety of events including the 800m, 200m, Shot Put, Discus, Triple Jump and Long Jump. Due to the slippery conditions, we were unable to safely run the High Jump and Hurdles events.
Thanks to the outstanding organisation of our staff and volunteers, we were able to keep the program moving and finish the day with the 100m sprint. Unfortunately, the Circular Relay (4 × 100m) had to be cancelled due to the weather.
Our students should be incredibly proud of the sportspersonship and determination they displayed throughout the day. It was wonderful to witness the encouragement, teamwork and house pride shown by all competitors, regardless of the conditions.
A huge thank you to our dedicated POPS staff and wonderful parent volunteers for helping the carnival run so smoothly. There are far too many people to name individually, but your support is greatly appreciated. We simply couldn't run events like this without you. Thank you also to the parents and grandparents who braved the weather to cheer on our students. A special thank you goes to our Community House Captains for their outstanding leadership with the set-up and coordination throughout the day.
After a fantastic day of competition, the final house results were:
1st – Grant – 183 points
2nd – Petty – 155 points
3rd – Gibb – 133 points
4th – Sharp – 124 points
Congratulations to Grant House, our 2026 House Athletics Carnival Champions!
Over the coming weeks, results will be reviewed to select our team for the Ringwood District Athletics Carnival, to be held on Monday 31st August at Bill Sewart Athletics Track in Burwood. More information will be shared with selected students and families shortly.
