Study Skills and Exam Preparation

The General Achievement Test (GAT) is scheduled for Tuesday, 17 June. This exam is an important measure of student literacy, numeracy, and general knowledge, assisting in the assessment and moderation of VCE scores. All students completing a Unit 3 & 4 study will be required to sit the GAT.

Following the GAT, the Senior School Exam period for Year 10 and 11 students will commence on Friday, 20 June. These exams provide students with valuable experience in formal assessment conditions and help to reinforce their learning, preparing them for future studies.

To support students in their exam preparation, we strongly encourage them to:

take initiative in their learning by actively engaging with study materials, asking questions, and seeking clarification when needed.
use available resources. Refer to the 'Study Skills' page of the Senior School Handbook for expert exam revision tips and strategies to stay motivated.
stay consistent and avoid last-minute cramming. Small, steady efforts each day can lead to meaningful progress!
look after their well-being by balancing study with healthy habits like exercise, proper nutrition, and relaxation techniques.
study with peers, discuss concepts, and share strategies which can make revision more effective and engaging.

2026 Subject Selection

In Term 3, students that are currently in Years 9, 10 and 11, will start receiving details regarding their 2026 subject selections. Details about our information sessions will be published shortly; however, please note the following dates:

Alternatives to VCE Night - Thursday 24 July
Senior School Information Night (online) - Monday 28 July
Year 10 into Year 11 Course Confirmation Interviews - Thursday 14 August

Our Alternatives to VCE Night is designed to provide students and families with an insight into the pathways available beyond the traditional VCE. The evening will include information about the VCE Vocational Major and Vocational Education and Training (VET) subjects.

The Senior School Information Night is a crucial aspect of the subject selection process, as students and parents/carers will be provided with information from the Heads of Year Level and expert teachers of English and Mathematics

The Year 10 Course Confirmation Interviews allow students and their families to discuss their preferred course for Year 11 with a member of our leadership team. Course Confirmation will be located in our college library from 10.00am and 6.00pm and bookings will be made online via Compass at the start of next Term. We strongly encourage our students and a parent/carer to attend.

New Subject - Health Communities

We are pleased to announce the introduction of 'Healthy Communities,' a new semester-length core subject for Year 10 students beginning in 2026. This unit has been designed to develop students’ skills and understanding in Respectful Relationships, while also ensuring they meet the department’s physical activity requirements through structured Sport Education.

The Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships curriculum will be delivered alongside the Building Respectful Relationships program. Students will explore problem-solving, stress management, and help-seeking behaviours to support their emotional wellbeing. They will also learn about the impacts of sexualization, digital safety, and responsible decision-making, equipping them with practical strategies for navigating real-life situations.

Additionally, students will engage in Sport Education, participating in a semester-long sporting competition with pre-allocated teams. Across two one-hour sessions per week, they will develop skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship while competing in a variety of sports that rotate weekly.

'Healthy Communities' is designed to equip students with the personal and social skills needed to be positive contributors to their communities. We are excited to introduce this meaningful addition to the curriculum and look forward to its positive impact on student wellbeing.

As we near the end of Term 2, we are eagerly anticipating some exciting events for our senior students. The Year 12 Formal promises to be a memorable evening of celebration, marking a significant milestone in their final year of school. Meanwhile, our Year 11 students are busy preparing for their Central Australia Tour, an incredible opportunity to explore the stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage of the Northern Territory. Finally, our Year 10 students will soon embark on their Work Experience placements, gaining valuable insights into the professional world and developing essential skills for their future pathways.
