Young Leader's Day 2026
On Friday 27th March, we were invited to the Young Leader's Day in the city. This event brought us together with other young leaders to listen, engage and interact with inspiring people from all walks of life. Each session had one or two speakers, question time, short videos, learning exercises, student involvement, music and student interactions.
So we got to school at 7:10 and got into Mr Webber's car, the girls were in the front and the best people were in the back. It was a bit hard to hear though because the speakers were right at our ear. When we got there Mr. Webber brought a hot chocolate and it was amazing then we went to the convention center.
- Olive Frame
One person we saw was Catherine Laga’aia, who is playing Moana in the live action movie. She told us how hard work can pay off. Now she has the privilege to act with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson who is playing Maui. This movie is coming out July 10th. She actually told us that she didn't want to try out for the role of Moana but her parents convinced her to. She was also competing against two of her sisters, who also went for the role.
There were about two thousand people at the Young Leaders Day Event and out of all those people I got to ask a question. I asked if this is Catherine Laga’aia’s first time in a movie or show, she said that she did a small role and appeared in 3 episodes of the show ‘The Lost Flowers Of Alice Heart’ as the character Young Candy. After her speech everyone lined up for photos. The line was sooo long and big that we nearly lost Olive.
- Atanaz Evans
Another person we saw was Jacqui Bell. She is an ultra marathon runner who ran across 7 continents and she has a record for the youngest person to run an ultra marathon at 22 years of age. Jacqui spoke about overcoming challenges and what it means to show up and commit, and what it takes to strive for more potential no matter what opportunities are available. It was great to have an opportunity to have a photo with her as well.
- Ashton Close
We also met Nick Hudson, a real cowboy. He told us he is part cow, and the founder of the push up challenge.
He talked about how he faced lots of challenges including getting held hostage, his website taken down and even heart surgery. He said that even though those were hard times he pushed through to make this happen, and it worked.
- Joey McAlister
Sadly, the day had to come to an end so we picked up our bags and made our way back to Mr Webber's car. Olive, Atanaz and I sat in the back and Ashton and Joey sat in the seats behind us. Mr Webber thought we should play a fun game on the way back to school. It was a meme game where we would play memes and only have 2 skips, if it is too funny then you use one of your skips. It was the best but also a bit embarrassing when we would put down the windows.
- Jessica Nicholson
It was an amazing day and we are so thankful for the opportunity and we hope that we get an opportunity to do something like that again. We had an amazing time and we are so thankful for all the people involved in planning the event.
