Student Goal Setting

Goal Setting Initiative
At Patterson River Secondary College we want all students to have aspirations not only for when they leave us at the end of Year 12 but also during their time at secondary school. We want students to be motivated to achieve their goals and have a clear direction of how they can get there.
Goal setting is a school wide initiative that is in its infancy. Implemented across the college for the first time last year. We have seen great student conversations about their future being sparked by students looking at their own data and being curious about their pathways. This year we will continue to build on this process and involve families across the journey.
So far within T@SK (Time at Skills and Knowledge) lessons, Years 10-12 students have explored the why of goal setting and have set their own College values aligned goals. They will also set personal goals around Health, Wellbeing and their Future Pathways.
Junior school students (7-9) have been completing their Numeracy and Reading PAT tests to ensure we have data for students to look at their progress each year.
Year 9 students are on their way completing their vision boards and looking at their last year's attendance.
Senior school parents, we invite you to have a chat with your child and ask what goals they have set this year. I know that many students in my class have surprised me with what they want to work on. During the lessons leading up to setting goals, students have been able to identify and articulate their improvement areas and determine strategies they can look to implement for the future.
