Athletics Carnival

Our annual athletics carnival returned to Riviera Park on Tuesday, 10 March, once again we were treated to perfect conditions for a fantastic day of competition and school spirit.

A huge thank you goes to all staff for their organisation and support throughout the day, as well as the team from the Seaford Little Athletics Club, whose assistance helped ensure everything ran smoothly. Events like this are a true team effort, we are very grateful for everyone’s contribution behind the scenes.

It was especially pleasing to see such strong participation across all events this year. Students embraced the opportunity to get involved, whether competing on the track, in the field, or cheering on their peers from the side-lines. The level of engagement and enthusiasm was outstanding.

Adding to the vibrant atmosphere, we were lucky to have music throughout the day provided by our talented student band and DJs, creating a great carnival vibe. The student-run novelty events were also a highlight, bringing plenty of fun, laughter and friendly competition to the program.

Most importantly, the behaviour of our students was excellent and house spirit was on full display from start to finish. The sea of colours, cheering and encouragement made for a positive and inclusive environment that everyone could enjoy.

Athletics Carnival - VCE VM

Athletics day this year was an absolute blast! The VCE VM students were given the amazing opportunity to be a part of the event this year. We had so much fun running the BBQ for our peers and teachers, it was a lot of fun planning how the event would run.

Overall the BBQ ran really well and all of our proceeds were donated to the charity Mums Supporting Families In Need. We are so proud of our efforts and are very happy to be supporting a local charity.

Swimming Carnival - VCE VM

Hello Patterson River Secondary College,

I’m Harry and on the behalf of VCE VM on Monday, 16 February the annual swimming carnival was on at Pines pool in Frankston North.

VCE VM ran non swimming activities so others can participate even if they didn’t want to swim. We had people on the Waterslide, A Sunscreen Station, Basketball, Face painting, a Glitter Glam, Wheel of Fortune and Mini Games.

It was a fantastic day that pushed many of us out of our comfort zones. Despite the heat, everyone had a blast and the energy was high from start to finish.

Griffin, Kate, Owen, Harry, Cuan, Jack and Taj, went on to represent the College at the Southern Metropolitan Region Championships on Monday, 23 March.

Our students performed exceptionally well against strong competition from across the region, bringing home an impressive collection of medals.

A special congratulations to Kate M, who claimed a silver medal in the Girls 50m Breaststroke event. Griffin D had a standout day, earning silver in the Boys 12–15 100m Freestyle with a fantastic performance in the pool. Owen H also took home a bronze medal in the Mens 16-20 200m Individual Medley.

Finishing the day on a high, our Boys 16 Years 200m Freestyle Relay team of Griffin D, Harry T, Taj A and Jack S combined brilliantly to take out silver!

Life Saving Victorian State Championships

Sarah L recently competed at Life Saving Victoria State Championships and came home with the following medals:

The Summit with Outdoor Education Students

Our Year 11 Outdoor Ed students recently participated in a physically and mentally challenging obstacle course experience, located at 'The Summit' in Trafalgar where they put their resilience, perseverance and teamwork skills to the test.

The course challenged students with a range of activities including climbing up cargo nets, crawling hands and knees through mud, balancing on narrow beams, carrying tyres, leaping over muddy pits and problem solving a range of challenges. While some tasks pushed students out of their comfort zones, it was inspiring to see how they responded, demonstrating the school values of persistence, excellence, community and respect with determination, positivity and a willingness to keep trying, even when things became difficult.

A highlight of the day was the way students supported one another. Whether it was offering encouragement or working as a team to overcome a tricky obstacle, the strong sense of teamwork was evident throughout the entire experience. We are incredibly proud of the effort, attitude and spirit shown by all students involved.

Kilcunda Camp Year 10 Outdoor Education

Miss Riddle’s Year 10 Outdoor Ed class had an awesome couple of days down at  Kilcunda recently!

We kicked things off with some great weather on day one, which made for perfect surfing conditions. Students got stuck in, had plenty of fun in the water and really started to build their confidence on the boards.

That night, the weather definitely changed things up, with wind and rain rolling in, which provided less than ideal sleeping conditions. By the next morning, we were heading out on the George Bass Coastal Walk in some pretty wet conditions but to their credit, students embraced it and enjoyed the views.

Surfing on day two was a whole different challenge. The waves were bigger, it was colder and the conditions were much tougher. Despite this, students were incredible. They showed real resilience, supported each other and took on the challenge head-on.

A huge highlight of the camp was how well everyone behaved and the positive attitude they brought, especially when the conditions got tough. We’re really proud of the way they represented the school.

Year 12 Scuba Day

As part of the Year 12 Outdoor and Environmental Education course, students undertook an introduction to Scuba Day where they learnt basics of Scuba, practising these in a pool before having the opportunity to demonstrate the new skills under Blair Gowrie Marina and Portsea Pier.
