Term 1 Wrap-Up

As Term 1 draws to a close, it is time to reflect on how busy this term has been and how well our students have settled into another school year.

Congratulations to all students who participated in the swimming sports and athletics competitions, both at our school level and those that went on to compete at zone.

Another congratulations goes out to all students who completed Naplan.

Library staff would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a safe and happy Easter and holidays.  We hope it is a chance to recharge and enjoy the last of the warm weather.

We Fell Apart

By: E. Lockhart

The invitation arrives out of the blue.

In it, Matilda discovers a father she’s never met. Kingsley Cello is a visionary, a reclusive artist. And when he asks her to spend the summer at his seaside home, Hidden Beach, Matilda expects to find a part of herself she’s never fully understood.

Instead, she finds Meer, her long-lost, openhearted brother; Brock, a former child star battling demons; and brooding, wild Tatum, who just wants her to leave their crumbling sanctuary.

With Kingsley nowhere to be seen, Matilda must delve into the twisted heart of Hidden Beach to uncover the answers she’s desperately craving. But secrets run thicker than blood and blood runs like seawater.

And everyone here is lying.

Step inside the unseen inner worlds of artists to discover the intense, sometimes otherworldly forces that drive them to bring something entirely new into being.

Featuring new commissions by Australian creators including Peter Carey and Dr Deanne Gilson, the exhibition uncovers the spiritual connections, rituals and deeply personal quests that shape these artists' works.

Witness how Joan Lindsay’s Picnic at Hanging Rock came from a series of dreams, how Howard Arkley’s Tudor Village series was inspired by Melbourne’s Fitzroy Gardens and how bohemian icon Vali Myers drew from her spiritual connections with animals.

Explore the process, passion and practice of 5 visionary Australian artists through new works commissioned by State Library Victoria:

  • Peter Carey sheds light on how he wrote True History of the Kelly Gang
  • Dr Chandrabhanu OAM presents his magnum opus, the Dasamahavidya, a classical Odissi Indian dance work that is the culmination of his decades-long practice
  • Dr Deanne Gilson shares her Wadawurrung ancestors’ Creation story through a powerful new work, Bundjil Morrgalyu Turt Barram Murrup / Bundjil and the Evening Star Spirits
  • Barry William Hale taps into the library’s collection of rare books on ancient magic and Surrealism to explain the process behind his monumental automatic drawing spanning 9 metres
  • Bundit Puangthong weaves together childhood memories in a 12-metre painting that combines his influences of traditional Thai temple painting and Melbourne’s graffiti culture.
