Literacy

In Literacy, our Preps have been learning to recognise and read the sounds and letters m, d, g, o, c, f, k, e, r, and u. They have been practising saying each sound, identifying the matching letters, and blending sounds together to read simple words. Using these sounds, students have also been developing their spelling skills by reading and writing words such as cot, fin, dip, Tom, Cam, dig, man, fog, red, kit, mug, and ten. It has been wonderful to see students growing in confidence as they use their phonics knowledge to decode and spell new words independently.

For our 1/2's, they have been learning to recognise and read a variety of letter patterns that make the long ‘ee’ sound. They will explore the ‘ie’ pattern and practise reading and spelling words such as chief, thief, brief, grief, and field. The students were also introduced to the split digraph ‘e_e’, where the ‘e’ at the end of the word helps the first ‘e’ say its name. Using this pattern, they read and spelt words including Eve, these, Steve, Pete, and complete. Miss Deane is very proud :)

Maths

In Maths, students have been learning a range of subtraction strategies. They have practised subtracting by taking away from a number, as well as taking apart a number to better understand how numbers can be broken into smaller parts.

Students have also been developing their skills in counting back to solve subtraction problems efficiently. In addition, they have been learning to read and write subtraction sentences, using mathematical symbols to represent their thinking.

It has been wonderful to see students growing in confidence as they apply different strategies to solve number problems.

ART

We are exploring the concept of 'Self' this term and students have been working through activities to discover what makes them unique. We have created a display of all the students in our school and displayed it on the back of the Art Room door for everyone to see and feel a sense of belonging.
