Every Day Counts!

School is a better place when your child is there—and every day they attend is a chance to learn, grow, and stay connected. When students miss school, they miss out not just on lessons, but on important experiences that help them succeed. Regular attendance and being on time helps build positive habits that carry through into further study, work, and life. Alongside academic progress, coming to school every day supports the development of vital social and emotional skills like communication, resilience, and teamwork, as well as helping students build strong friendships and meaningful connections with their peers.
Children and young people who attend school regularly are more likely to enjoy better physical and mental health, stronger job opportunities, and positive outcomes throughout their lives.
There’s no “safe” number of days to miss—each absence can make it harder for a student to keep up. Research shows a clear link between poor attendance and challenges such as leaving school early, unemployment, and poorer health outcomes.
Even small amounts of missed time add up quickly. Missing just one day a fortnight can mean around four weeks of school lost in a year- which is the equivalent of missing over a full year of schooling by Year 10. While 90% attendance might sound okay, it actually means missing about half a day each week, or nearly four full weeks across the year!
If you or your family need support with attendance concerns, please reach out to your child's classroom teacher, or alternately, Matt, Megan or myself.
Thanks,
Bron Coffey
