Kids Corner

The “Kids’ Corner” section of our school newsletter provides the opportunity for the children to showcase their talents or communicate something special.
This fortnight, Amasha (Year 4) would like to share her persuasive piece:
Everyone Should Not Have Their Own Ipad or Laptop
How would you feel if your child got poor eyesight or was a victim of a cyber-attack? Well, I believe Year 4 students should not own laptops or iPads. They could get easily distracted and addicted, they may end up with poor eyesight and not using their skills appropriately as well as they could and it also affects parents because of the extra cost it involves.
Firstly, it could negatively impact because of too much screen time. Sooner or later they will have poor eyesight, poor sleep and not enough physical activity, leaving unhealthy kids behind!
Secondly, Year Four students may not use it appropriately because they are young and will get easily distracted or manipulated. For example, they may play games, video or be on apps rather than focusing on their learning. This may make learning less effective for them. Also the cost of iPads and laptops can be too much for some parents as they can’t afford to buy them. Also, when kids are younger, they may not be responsible enough to look after their iPad or laptop properly.
Due to the negative impacts iPads and laptops have on kids, their lack of understanding of appropriate use of devices and the extra cost, I firmly believe that Year Four students should not own iPads or laptops!
