Kindy Destiny

with Miss Dimos

In literacy, KD have been learning initial sounds and letter names. We have a focus every second day and participate in a variety of letter and sound activities. The sounds learnt are then written to make a word. For example, d-o-g makes the word dog, and c-a-t makes the word cat.

Students are excited to see themselves be able to write words and sound out letters to figure out what the word spells.  In writing, students have been learning to write a sentence. At the beginning of the lessons, as a warm-up activity, they can act out their sentence, share it with a peer, and then write it on paper. When unsure, the teacher writes the word, and they are then able to copy that word. For example, I am a penguin. I can waddle. I am a lion. I can roar.

In maths, students are working on numbers 1 to 20, being able to count forwards and backwards, to subitise specific numbers and to use Unifix cubes and counters to make a specified number. For example, what makes the number 9 and they’ll make a 7 and a 2 using the cubes or an 8 and a 1. They then share their answers with their class.
