Principal's Message

Taking Off in Term 2!
School has returned with renewed focus after the autumn break. Classes are productive places with small group reading and writing groups, focused maths lessons, inquiry units of work that are rich and relevant to students' lives. Students are building increased confidence in themselves as learners and we are supporting all of our students to be critical thinkers, collaborators and smart communicators.
Ask you child what they are learning at the moment...
Have you met our 2 new preschool teachers???
We welcome Mrs Sevda Karatas and Mrs Susan Callaghan to GEPS. We are so lucky to have 2 very experienced preschool teachers with a wealth of knowledge and expertise. They will be about and around our school, getting to know students, staff and families and preparing for our new preschool.
We're very excited about the progress of the building - the solar panels went on last week and the sandpit is going in!
Stage 1 go underwater?!
Our three Stage 1 classes took off to Sea Life aquarium in the first week back, having a wonderful time learning about sea creatures.
We also began our term with an ANZAC service, joined by Ms Alice O'Connor from the Cumberland RSL Granville sub-branch. Alice addressed the assembly, outlining the symbolism of red poppies and rosemary on ANZAC day.
Alice also awarded the Frank Ashton BEM ANZAC Memorial Award to Umar R in Year 2.
Parent Leaders 2026
The P&C held their Annual General Meeting last week and a big congratulations to the new executive team for 2026:
- President: Janet Pritchard-Pelasio
- Treasurer: Chand Khan
- Secretary: Sabrine El Karhani
Special thanks to Jess, who has been treasurer and has done a wonderful job. She handed that role over, as her son is in Year 7.
Congratulations to our new executive and I look forward to working with you.
The GEPS Ducks!
Last week eggs, incubators and a list of instructions arrived in the Stage 1 classrooms! Over two weeks the children have watched the eggs hatch and ducklings emerge. They've observed feathers growing and the ducklings wobbling to stand up! What a wonderful way to learn about growth and change; observing real life creatures and carefully handling these new friends!
Colour Run!
What a day we had last Thursday for our whole school Colour Run! A day full of festivities, active work, collaborating, getting colourful and most of all - having fun!
Thank you to Ms Leigh for organising to all of the students for raising money and participating in such a GEPS way!
What's coming up...
Our SchoolBytes calendar is live - and has all the information of what's on this term.
You can also find the calendar on the front page of our school website - scroll all the way to the bottom!
Mothers Day
Thank you to the P&C for hosting our Mothers Day stall.
I hope all mothers have a lovely day on Sunday and feel the warmth and gratitude from their family.
