EDUCATION SUPPORT PERSONNEL (ESP) DAY || Today we recognise and thank our amazing Education Support staff for the important role they play in our college. Across Learning Support, Administration, Wellbeing, Maintenance, IT and specialist roles, their dedication supports our students, staff and families every day. We could not do it without them!

YEAR 7 BEST || Year 7 BEST students have been investigating forces through hands-on experiments, using inclined planes to test how the slope affects the amount of force needed to pull a model car. By measuring the newtons required at different angles, students explored how forces and motion work in real-world applications.

ROAD TO ZERO EXHIBITION || Our VCE Health and Human Development students visited the Melbourne Museum’s Road to Zero exhibition today, exploring key concepts from Units 3 and 4 through real-world contexts. Through expert insights and interactive experiences, students deepened their understanding of the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion, road safety initiatives and the role of health in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

EDUCATION WEEK: SHOWCASE YOUR SCHOOL || This Education Week we are proud to be showcasing our school! Today we are celebrating the many learning areas that underpin every student’s journey. From building strong foundations across Communicate & Relate (English), Mathematics, BEST (Science), Technologies and Create (The Arts), to Our World (Humanities), Healthy Lifestyles (Health & PE) and Languages, our students are supported to explore ideas, solve problems, apply their learning in real-world contexts, develop independence and grow as capable, connected and engaged young people. Through ongoing feedback, reflection and learning beyond the classroom, students are encouraged to continually build their skills, confidence and understanding.

MONDAY 18 MAY 2026

JUNIOR, INTERMEDIATE & SENIOR AFL & NETBALL || Intermediate Girls AFL Division Champions! Congratulations to our Intermediate Girls AFL team who went undefeated and claimed the Grand Final win after a tight and hard-fought match at today’s Round Robin.

Our Junior Girls AFL team also had a fantastic day, finishing 4th overall. While our Senior Girls did not come away with the win today, their effort never wavered. They still had plenty of fun and enjoyed a great day together, especially for many students proudly representing BSC for the final time.

In Netball, our Junior team competed in the Year 8 competition with an all Year 7 side, finishing the day with two wins and three losses. Our Intermediate Boys team also had a couple of wins and a few close contests throughout the day. Our Senior Year 11 Boys team had a strong day, losing just one game in the rounds before going down by only two goals in the Grand Final. Our Senior Year 12 Boys team also competed strongly, finishing 5th overall.

Across all Junior, Intermediate and Senior teams, students represented the college with pride, demonstrating teamwork, resilience and excellent sportsmanship throughout the day.

Well done to all students involved!

CELEBRATING IDAHOBIT DAY || Today we celebrated IDAHOBIT Day, recognising the importance of inclusion, respect and pride within our community. Throughout the day, students took part in a range of activities including art making in our Pride Club, rainbow face painting, a lunchtime screening of Heartstopper and trivia in GOAL.

CO-CURRICULAR OPPORTUNITIES AT BSC || As part of Education Week and the theme ‘Showcase your school’, we’re celebrating the wide range of co-curricular opportunities at Beaumaris Secondary College. From student leadership, academic extension and learning support to our College Production, Instrumental Music Program, camps, exchange opportunities, sport, clubs and Micro-credentials Program, students are encouraged to explore their interests, build confidence, develop new skills and connect with others beyond the classroom.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT COASTAL FIELDWORK || Yesterday our Year 9 & 10 Sustainable Development students headed to Ricketts Point for fieldwork as part of their Coastal Change and Management Unit. Students collected and analysed data to investigate the impact of coastal processes and human activity on the local environment. The data gathered will support their Term 2 Project-Based Learning (PBL) task.

STUDENT VOICE IN ACTION || Today, a group of Year 9 students presented to school leadership on an issue impacting their year level as part of the ‘Teach the Teacher’ program. Using data from the Attitudes to School Survey, students analysed feedback, designed a presentation and led meaningful discussions focused on creating positive change within the school community. We commend the students on the insight, initiative and leadership shown throughout the process.

ON AIR AT SOUTHERN FM || Kicking off the first session for Term 2, Year 9 students Kai, Ben and Isaiah were on air this morning with Southern FM. Despite the early start, the students did a fantastic job hosting an hour-long live radio show on 88.3 Southern FM. We thank Southern FM for continuing to provide our students with authentic opportunities to develop their confidence, communication skills and experience in live broadcasting.

MODEL UNITED NATIONS || Today, students from Years 8, 10 and 12 attended a Model UN conference at Mentone Grammar, stepping into the role of member states to debate global issues and work towards meaningful resolutions. Focusing on Pathways to Peace: Addressing War, Conflict and International Security, students developed their negotiation, public speaking and collaboration skills in a dynamic, real-world context.

CHES EXPO DAY || Today, some of our Year 10 and 11 high ability students attended the Centre for Higher Education Studies Expo Day, exploring future pathways and learning more about opportunities available through CHES. Students had the chance to meet with university representatives, ask questions and gain valuable insights into further study options.

BATTLE OF THE BANDS || A fantastic way to wrap up Arts Week, with students taking to the stage for this year’s Battle of the Bands, showcasing loads of talent, creativity and energy! Congratulations to all performers. Every act was amazing, and it was very difficult for our judges, Ms Casley, Mr Katz and Mr Whelan, to make a decision.

YEAR 10 STUDENT INTERVIEWS CATHY FREEMAN || Year 10 student Preston Denning recently had the exciting opportunity to interview Australian Olympic icon Cathy Freeman as part of his ‘The Stories of Us’ Communicate and Relate specialism.

Throughout the interview, Preston and Cathy discussed the influence of family, the most important moment of her career and the message she hoped to send when carrying both the Australian and Aboriginal flags.

We commend Preston on the professionalism, initiative and preparation shown throughout this opportunity and thank Cathy for her time and support.

YEAR 10 BEYOND: SHARK TANK CHALLENGE || Innovation, creativity and entrepreneurial thinking were on display as our Year 10 Beyond students took part in a Shark Tank-style pitch presentation today.

Working in teams, students developed and presented original product ideas designed to solve real-world problems and improve everyday life. From smart school solutions and self-heating lunch boxes to organisational technology and transport concepts, each group showcased impressive collaboration, critical thinking and presentation skills.

Students pitched their ideas to a judging panel, explaining the purpose of their product, target audience, costs and business potential, while responding to questions and feedback throughout the session.

A fantastic opportunity for students to apply their learning in an authentic and engaging way — well done to all involved!

OUTDOOR EDUCATION IN ACTION || Despite the wet conditions, today our Year 9 & 10 The Great Outdoors students took on the treetops at Treetops Adventure Belgrave as part of their Outdoor Education unit. From navigating obstacle courses to balancing high above the ground, students stepped outside their comfort zones, challenged themselves and built confidence, teamwork and resilience along the way.
