GRAPHIC NOVELS - Amulet by Kazu Kibuishi

For our students who love fast-paced fantasy adventures, giant robots, mysterious amulets and stunning artwork, then you will find our new nine-book graphic novel series - Amulet by Kazu Kibuishi - an exciting addition to our collection. Beginning with The Stonekeeper, the series follows siblings Emily and Navin after they discover a hidden world filled with danger, strange creatures and powerful magic.

What makes Amulet a standout is its incredible artwork. Every page is packed with colour, movement and detail, making the fantasy world feel alive. The story combines action, mystery and emotional moments, especially as Emily struggles with the growing power of the amulet she wears. Students who have recently borrowed Harry Potter or Bone from our collection will probably be hooked almost immediately.

One of the best things about Amulet is how accessible it is for reluctant readers. The graphic novel format keeps the story moving quickly, while the cliffhangers at the end of each book make it very hard to stop at just one.

Although the series is often aimed at middle-grade readers, many secondary students still love it because the world-building becomes more complex and darker as the story continues. This is what makes it a fantastic addition to our collection.

Recommended for Years 7-10.

Adrian Newey by Frank Hopkinson

If you think Formula 1 is all about the drivers, think again…this book shows that real superheroes don’t always wear helmets.

Adrian Newey by Frank Hopkinson puts the spotlight on the engineering mastermind behind some of the fastest cars ever built. This hardback biography dives into the world of legendary F1 designer Adrian Newey — the man often called “the genius who can see air.”

Packed with more than 200 photographs, diagrams, and infographics, the book feels almost like a deluxe pit pass into Formula 1 history. From Williams and McLaren to Red Bull and Aston Martin, Hopkinson shows how Newey’s ideas helped create championship-winning cars. Even if you’re not obsessed with aerodynamics or engineering, the stories of split-second decisions, and relentless ambition keep the pages moving fast.

What makes this book especially fun for secondary students is that it shows the creativity, problem-solving, and determination behind success and how creative Newey’s thinking is. He doesn’t just build cars; he solves problems in ways no one else can see.
