Class 3/4 S

Kii 3/4S families!
Welcome back to Term 2.
In Main Lesson/Mathematics, we have been consolidating our understanding of fractions through storytelling. Students journeyed through the great land of Wylynn, which was first divided into fourths and then further into eighths. Through this narrative, they explored how to share harvests fairly between villagers, identifying the fraction of resources each would receive and making connections between equivalent fractions (for example, 1/4 and 2/8).
Students were then gifted their own plot of land within the kingdom, which they carefully divided into equal parts of their choosing. They made thoughtful decisions about how to use their land, identifying and labelling the corresponding fractions—for example, 1/8 for their home and 3/8 for grazing sheep. This imaginative approach has supported students in developing a deeper and more meaningful understanding of fractions.
In the coming weeks we’ll be focusing on addition and subtraction in Mathematics. Students will revisit and practise a range of strategies for solving problems, such as the column strategy, split strategy, utilising grouping, partitioning, bridging to 10 and 100, doubling, and skip counting.
