Get involved!

Staying connected to school life is one of the most powerful ways families can support their children’s learning and wellbeing. Whether you can offer a little time, lend your skills, or contribute to a worthwhile cause, every involvement makes a difference. There are many ways to get involved and be an active part of our vibrant school community.
Seeking Expressions of Interest from restaurant owners
We are seeking expressions of interest from restaurant owners within our school community who would like to contribute to our International Day celebration by providing lunch orders on Friday, 9 October. If you are interested, please complete this form by 29 May 2026. Last year, we received over 250 orders spread across 3 suppliers. We look forward to collaborating with local businesses to make this celebration a memorable one!
Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal – Bendigo
The annual The Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal will take place in Bendigo on Sunday 24th May from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm, and we are thrilled by the overwhelming response from our students. More than 200 students have volunteered to collect donations across 50 locations throughout Bendigo in support of this important community initiative.
We are currently in urgent need of parent volunteers to assist with transporting student groups to the Salvation Army headquarters in Gravel Hill at the conclusion of the appeal. The time commitment would be approximately 11:30 am – 12:00 pm. If you are available to assist, please contact Rachelle Fisher at rachellefisher@girton.vic.edu.au.
Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal - Castlemaine
The annual The Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal is taking place in Castlemaine on Sunday 31st May from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm. This is a wonderful opportunity for students and families to support an important community initiative and help raise funds for people in need across our region.
Students interested in volunteering for the Castlemaine Red Shield Door Knock Appeal are asked to contact the event organiser directly:
Beth Waldron Anstice
Email: beth.waldronanstice@salvationarmy.org.au
Please note that volunteers for the Castlemaine Red Shield Appeal are not coordinated or supervised by Girton Grammar School staff.
Students wishing for this Community Service activity to be recognised towards House Colours and/or leadership applications must complete the Community Service Application available on the Community Service page on Astra.
For further information about the event, please contact the organisers directly.
Volunteer: Secondhand uniform shop
Did you know the Second-Hand Uniform Shop (SHUS) is open every Tuesday and Friday morning from 8:15 to 9:00am?
Located in Girton House on the Junior School campus, the Second-hand Uniform Shop offers a great way to buy and donate quality second-hand Girton uniforms.
We’re currently looking for volunteers from both the Junior School and Senior School communities to help run the shop. It’s a great opportunity to meet other families, support the school, and give back in a meaningful way.
If you're available on a Tuesday or Friday morning and would like to get involved, please sign up here: volunteersignup.org/HH7EC.
Thank you for your support!
Warm regards,
Alicia Stroud
President, Friends of the Junior School

How families can help
Throughout the year we'll be seeking donations to support various GCAG initiatives. First up is National Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week from 26 May to 3 June. We have several activities planned, including a community sausage sizzle. All proceeds raised go to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.
If you’re able to donate bread, sausages, halal sausages, sauces, serviettes or soft drink, we would be incredibly grateful. Please get in touch with Mrs Melinda Naughton if you can assist.
