Principal's Report

Year 7 Camp

The Year 7 camp was moved to the Briars in Mount Martha this year due to the rising costs associated with the Ovens Camp. The camp is designed to challenge and build confidence in our young people and to help foster new friendships in a fun and positive environment.

Students were involved in a number of different activities however due to algae issues no water activities were undertaken – this was a shame as it was hot!!.....a huge thanks to all of the staff that attended the camp. The students had a great time and I am sure will have life long memories.

Swimming & Athletics Carnivals

Term 1 saw two of the major school events; the Swimming and Athletics Carnivals.

Years 1 - 6 Swimming Carnival was held at the Yarra Swim Centre on 21st February.

Years 7 - 12 held theirs on the 28th February at the Aquarena Aquatic & Leisure Centre.

We were blessed with great weather and the waterslide was a real hit. As usual, the novelty events were very popular. The traditional staff v students relay race and staff versus students lilo race were split with the students winning the relay race and the staff the lilo.

Athletics day was held on 19th March for Years 5 - 12 and the day was a huge success.

Primary held their Twilight Sports last evening.

Thanks to David Crowe and his support staff for all of their work on making these events happen.

NAPLAN

Students in years 3, 5 ,7 and 9 completed the NAPLAN last week. There were a few minor hiccups with the Department server crashing however from our end, it was plain sailing. Huge thanks to Linda Cecala for all of her hard work in scheduling and running the NAPLAN and to Simone for supporting her with all of the IT issues.

Social Media and College Promotions

Hopefully many of you are seeing the work being done to develop the community perceptions of the college, particularly through Instagram posts and facebook pages. The College has invested in a new camera so that we can take better and more regular photographs of events. We are also currently working on our new webpage which we hope to have up and running early term 2.

Open Night

We had our annual Open Night on Monday 31 March. This night is held for prospective Year 7 students and parents and provides an opportunity for us to showcase the school.

This year we changed the format to include students from each year level talking about different highlights as they transition through school.

There was a performance by our music academy students, a formal presentation held in the college theatre and presentation packs available to families.
