Busy Foundation Bees! 🐝🌼

Our Foundation students have been busy learning all about the important work of bees! They took part in a fun pollination simulation, pretending to be bees and discovering how pollen can be carried from one flower to another. We then explored what happens to flowers after they are pollinated and how they can develop into fruit and produce seeds. Students also learned about the lifecycle of a honey bee, sequencing the stages from egg, to larva, pupa and finally an adult bee. We finished by creating our own bee lifecycle hives and adding them to our bee artwork from the previous lesson. It was a wonderful way to see how bees, flowers and plants are all connected! 🐝🌸🍎

Year 1/2 Science

Our Year 1/2 students have had lots of fun exploring structures and patterns in nature! Last week they headed outside to work in teams, collecting natural materials such as sticks, twigs, leaves and bark. Then, using their creativity and engineering skills, they built their own structures. Students drew on what they had learned about strong and stable structures while working together to solve problems and bring their ideas to life. 

This week we turned our attention to Nature’s Hidden Patterns, discovering the amazing patterns that can be found all around us in the natural world. Students looked closely at patterns such as repetition, symmetry and spirals and began thinking like scientists as they observed and recorded what they could see.
