Starting calmly

Welcome back to term 4.  It is going to be a busy and exciting term as we head toward the end of the year. As I look around our school I can’t help but notice that students and staff have strengthened their bonds creating connections and a sense of belonging and wellbeing at our school. Amongst all the busyness there is also a sense of calm and cohesion.

As staff, we have been working on ensuring that our students are feeling emotionally supported at Mother Teresa and ensuring they feel welcomed and included.  This helps students to further foster the sense of belonging that we see around the school. There are some things you can try at home to ensure a sense of belonging:

A simple five minute check in:  “What went well today?”

“What was a little difficult?” and

“Would you like me to listen or help?” (we don’t always need to solve problems)

As students start to look towards the end of the year, this can be met with excitement or anxiety.  A new year can be met with lots of unknowns, for all year levels, none more so than our year 6’s who are moving on to high school.  If you notice that your child is having concerns around the end of year, feel free to chat to their teacher or the wellbeing team.  You don’t need to wait until a concern feels big. Sharing what you’re noticing helps us understand your child’s needs and work together to best support them.

Wishing you a calm start to the term,
