We were lucky enough to be invited by MACS to attend the 'Welcoming Each Other' Interfaith Education Seminar, a significant professional learning opportunity designed to support diverse school communities in fostering inclusive, respectful and faith-filled environments. Dina Hanna and I attended, and we were moved by some of the stories we heard and connections we made.
Hosted by Together For Humanity, an inclusive, not-for-profit educational organisation,
the day was designed to build confidence, understanding, and practical approaches for engaging with the rich religious and cultural diversity within our school community.
The day was guided by the question:
How do we encourage a culture of curiosity and respect for our diverse religious and cultural worldviews?
This question was explored through some of the following:
The Human Library: A standout session where we listened to individuals, including people from Islamic, Muslim and Sikh faiths, share personal lived experiences, creating space for authentic encounter, empathy, and meaningful conversation.
Guest Presenters & Discussions: Thoughtful insights into fostering belonging, mutual respect, and intercultural understanding across Catholic school settings.
Practical Classroom Pedagogies: Tailored sessions exploring age-appropriate resources, activities, and strategies that can be adapted for both primary and secondary classrooms.
We look forward to sharing more of this with you in the coming weeks.
